It's been a while (3.5 years) since I listened to Heaven's River, so my memory of the characters and where things left off was fuzzy. I did mostly get back into things after a bit without feeling the need to look for recap.
The book was enjoyable enough that it kept my attention, but it also sort of felt like a bit of a transition book. There were like 4 main plot lines, and all of them felt like setup for more books. I'm good with that, I'll read more books.
I thought it ended in a fine place where I'm looking forward to the next book but not going to be impatient for it to come out. There are lots of loose threads but nothing I'd call a cliffhanger.
Audio narration was fantastic as usual. Ray Porter is excellent.
This series continues to captivate me. While keeping track of the multiple generations of Bob can be challenging, I always find myself disappointed when I reach the end of a book and realize there are no more installments to read.
I thoroughly enjoyed the latest book. My only criticism is that the ending felt abrupt and lacked a clear resolution in terms of its content and storyline.
Favorit series, back at great story telling. But just a warm up, with no ending.
I wasn't a huge fan of Heaven's River so I wasn't sure what to expect going in, but this brought back everything I loved about the first books. Computer nerd in space <3
(Could have done without the dragon chapters but can't win ‘em all)
The 5th installment of the Bobiverse is a total banger!
With the threat of the Others behind them, there are new risks and challenges coming from every direction, even from within the Bob like itself. One set of Bobs discovers a wormhole network that leads them to discover an existential threat so large that it literally changes everything. Meanwhile replicative drift causes the Skippies to go off on their own and they create a new enemy from within that is a threat of almost the same level.
Hard not to give spoilers by going any further. Let's just say that if you're a fan of the Bobiverse books, it's unlikely you'll be disappointed in book 5. I enjoyed it more than Heaven's River.
The Bobiverse series is my favourite, always leaving me eager for the next book.
While I can't give it a full 5-star rating because there's often a storyline involving one of the Bobs that doesn't fully capture my interest, this doesn't detract from the overall enjoyment.
Each Bob has their own adventures, and while these can be significant, they don't disrupt the main narrative if you choose not to focus on them.
It can be challenging to keep track of all the Bobs and their plotlines, especially if it's been a while since reading the last book.
Despite this, the series remains incredibly engaging and enjoyable.
