DNF at a little after 10%. Normally I wouldn't even bother to review anything I dropped that quickly, but the writing alone made me think the author is a judgmental jackass who needs to 1) talk to a teenage girl before he tries to write one, and 2) hire a better editor. (Listening to My Chemical Romance on an iPod in 2018? Sure, okay, lmao. Forgot your phone charger? Who cares when you don't have signal? Turn off your damn phone. Randomly explaining the translation of the name of the rest stop with no narrative explanation as to why? Um...??)
All the characters were annoying, especially Darby, and I knew who the ~bad guy~ was going to be from "Who's Bing Crosby?"
I'm annoyed that I wasted half an hour on this, but given the other reviews mentioning how gory it got later on, I'm grateful I at least got out before that.
Very thrilling book. Reads just like a movie. There are some gory sceens. I however did not enjoy it being told in the 3nd person point of view, that took me a long time to get use to and get over. I do like that the whole book was based on events that happen in 1 night. However it does drag on sometimes, I feel like the book could have been shorter and I didn't really get some of the humor in the book to lighten the mood. Overall good read.
I devoured this book in one sitting, unable to put it down. The story is engaging, the characters are well-written, and the suspense is palpable. The author expertly builds tension, leading to a thrilling conclusion. I loved it!
Holy shit! Incredible, well written, THRILLING book.
I think I had adrenaline running through me the whole time I read this. I don't think l've read in third person before but it made it feel like I'm watching them and hearing their thoughts rather than actually the character of the book.
Not one moment of this book was slow. I was hooked from the start. The twists shocked me and trust me I was trying not I guess and I still couldn't get it, they also didn't come out of nowhere. I just definitely recommend this to everyone!
this one really reminded me what a fucked up world we live in. the intensity had me on the edge of my seat, such a good book.
This book was so captivating. It was such a quick read for me because of the suspense, plot twists, and overall fast-pace of the story.
I was very surprised by multiple events, although towards the end the shock factor was lost due sheerly to how many the author included.
Anther criticism- there WERE moments where the writing was cheesy/juvenile that I didn't care for. Regardless, I really enjoyed it start to finish. It's a great winter-time read due to the setting.
Wow...
The back of the book is originally what made me want to read it, but I don't think anything could have prepared me for what happened on the inside. This was a 10/10 story about the lengths Darby Thorne would go through to save a complete stranger - that stranger being a child.
Crazy, intense, scary, heart pounding, and even humorous are all words I would use to describe what happens on these pages. If you're looking for a thriller that's different from what you've been reading, check this out.
Racial slurs were completely unnecessary to the plot. Writing was repetitive. Plot dragged on and on. Was taken out of the story many times. Skip this bookÂ
i just dont think this book was for me. i LOVED The Last Word but this just didn't feel the same. I didn't like much of the book and when it was good it was just fine. I predicted one of the twist but the rest were shocking. Its action packed and I liked the main character but I just felt like it didn't have a wow factor for me so unfortunately i wasn't a big fan.
I'm not normally a thriller type of reader and this book kept me on my toes the entire time. I really enjoyed reading this and would recommend for anyone wanting something spooky.
There were so many twists and turns; I would enjoy seeing this in movie form.
4.5* this was GREAT!! Through the whole second half i was constantly on the edge of my seat i couldn't read fast enough
This was almost a 5 star, but a few things about it held me back (primarily with one of the characters). This book hits the ground running and does NOT STOP. If you want a great paced thriller, this is it.

This book really kept me on my toes and I absolutely loved it! Every time that I thought I knew what was going on or what was going to happen next, I was thrown for another loop and it made the book so much fun to read. Something else that I really enjoyed about this book were the characters, particularly the protagonist, Darby. She is such a badass and I think Adams did a great job of writing a strong female lead. The antagonist was equally as well-written; I felt like they were oozing evil off the page at some times.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good thriller but is maybe looking for something a little more suspenseful and twisty. I find that personally, I can usually predict the ending of the story or what the plot twist is going to be and I really couldn't do that with this book; so if you are looking for something a bit more unpredictable, I would give this a try. I would also recommend this book if you're in a reading slump because from the first chapter, I was pulled into the story and I had physical reactions to it while reading. I had anxiety the entire time I was reading this, and I think one of the things that makes this so scary is that it's more of a realistic scenario than maybe some other mystery/thrillers.
Overall, I really enjoyed this and would recommend it if you like mysteries and thrillers, or if you're in a slump and need something to remind you why you love reading so much.
I was on the edge of my seat all the time! Cruel and graphic at times but surprising and exciting.
â Darby preferred to live her life wide-eyed, tormented, running, because nothing can catch you if you never stop.â
What is the book about?
On her way to Utah to see her dying mother, college student Darby Thorne gets caught in a fierce blizzard in the mountains of Colorado. With the roads impassable, she's forced to wait out the storm at a remote highway rest stop. Inside, are some vending machines, a coffee maker, and four complete strangers.
Desperate to find a signal to call home, Darby goes back out into the storm . . . and makes a horrifying discovery. In the back of the van parked next to her car, a little girl is locked in an animal crate. (copied from storygraph)Â
What did I think of the book?
I was expecting this to be a mystery thriller, I was thinking that the kidnapper would not be revealed early on in the book but I was wrong. It's fine though, this book felt more like an action movie. The perfect gif that would describe this book is the âthat escalated quicklyâ gif.Â
I read this quite quickly because of all the tension. Darby is a badass, if I were to get kidnapped, I would like her to find me. I don't know how I would have reacted and if I would still be alive if I were in her situation.
Overall a good thriller. I would have rated 4 stars, but the n-slur that was thrown in really felt unnecessary.
A taut thriller that was incredibly well paced. I loved it! I loved how it didn't tie up neatly, I loved the twists along the way. This was a great read.
An entertaining popcorn thriller. Fast-paced and exciting, ridiculous and far-fetched, No Exit is the perfect âone-night standâ book - not one that is an all-time favorite or a recommendation to all readers, but one that was thoroughly enjoyable all the same.
