Part of what I love so much about this book is how clearly we are in Elena’s head. The way Ferrante describes Elena’s world for us, these tiny, banal, and domestic parts of life take on a million meanings, social meanings, economic meetings, political meanings. And you can also see that part of what Elena likes/envies/loves about Lila is her ability to do this same thing. To uncover the hidden world within the one we inhabit.
It reminds me of why I love talking to my mom so much :)
