DNF at 79%. I saw another reviewer compare reading this book to watching a group of squirrels squabble with mounting angst and I think the comparison is apt. it's just been hours of them blabbering away and I can't take anymore.

I just wasn't interested enough to see where it was going. It seemed shallow and, although it's well-written, I don't think I'd get anything out of it.
This was the most confusing and frustrating books I have ever read. Most of the chapters are just the characters arguing with each other, and there's three romances but we don't know enough about the characters for any of them to actually feel interesting and exciting. The interludes are also annoying because they either give away what happens in the next chapter or doesn't add anything to the story as a whole. “The game immortals play” is never explained, and any time it's about to be explained to someone that character gets cut off, so the whole time the story is happening you aren't even quite sure what the game is or what the main characters need to do other than ‘win' it.
Wanted to like this as it seems like a new take on urban fantasy and vampires/creatures, but 20% in there’s nothing but talking/rambling and no work done whatsoever to make me like the characters enough to listen.
DNF AT pg. 220
Good grief this book was tedious.
Olivie sure loves to write dialogue — I found almost 90% of this whole book was pure dialogue of characters and very little in descriptive passages; and because of this overall felt very uneventful with what felt like everyone was just standing around talking and bickering the whole time.
Genuinely loved every single fucking character in this book. The badguy doing a little twirl? Got me there honestly. Even if Fox D'Mora is in Death's words: “a right little shit” he has crawled up to sit right next to Alex Easton on my favorite character list.
A cast of characters that I would more than be excited about joining up with again. Felt like things got a little bit too neat and tidy. Was the juice worth the squeeze? Who is to say but give me another journey with Fox and I'm there
Love, love, love Fox & Brandt. The full cast of characters were all delightful and I felt I knew each one of them and watched them as they grew. Lovely book! 10/10 would read again & again.
