This one was really really fun. I was very worried about Derek, who is one of my favorite characters from this series. Loved the gladiator contest, too, and the nasty nasties they had to fight. Needed even more Curran, though. Watching Kate and him circle around each other is so much fun.
Shapeshifters are being murdered, their bodies left on display for the pack to find. When Kate stumbles on Jim cleaning up one of the bodies, she offers to enlist her help and is denied. Until the next body found is her friend Derek, and he's barely clinging to life. Kate plunges headfirst into the investigation, regardless of the consequences. Her path will lead both herself and Curran to The Midnight Games. An underground fighting ring where humans and creatures battle to the death. Place your bets, because once Kate Daniels gets involved, all hell will break loose.
Another fast paced, action packed installment to the Kate Daniels series. This time we are allowed to see the underground of Atlanta and witness the brutality that encompasses the Midnight Games. Ilona Andrews ramps up the tension by throwing our favorite characters into an all out death brawl and no punches are pulled. Kate will have to make sacrifices to save her friends, and endanger the life she has spent years building.
Throughout the series, we've been given pieces of Kate's past, strung along like breadcrumbs. This book is by far one of the most revealing in the series and will start connecting the dots. Readers will learn how Kate developed her skills, and the harsh realities she had to face as a child. By the time you finish this novel, there will no longer be any doubt in your mind how she became such a battle hardened woman.
This series is hard to put down. I'm am so hooked on it that I no longer want to read anything else. On to the next book!
Another good story. I put it down for a while and had to go back and re-read some sections to get caught up again. Lesson there, don't put it down. Keep going.
After figuring out that her friend Derek has gotten himself into some kind of trouble, Kate decides to find him and make him spill. But when she finds him, he is nearly dead. And he's not the only shapeshifter that's been attacked. Kate must work with the Pack to find out who wants them all dead.
This book was great! Never a dull moment.
Setelah 2 buku aku berharap buku 3 akhirnya terjadi “the hook up”. Ternyata belum, namun tidak kecewa karena adegan hot tub cukup sexy & lucu. Very entertaning...
Apakah setelah 3 buku maka di buku 4 hook up antara Kate & Currant akhirnya terjadi... OMG...please yes....hahaha
This series is fast-paced and entertaining, and I really like Kate. Generally, I'm entirely fed up with the alpha male love interest, but there is something about Curran that makes him less insufferable than most, to me.
Waiting for the rest of these novels to come into the library is going to be SO FREAKING hard. Ilona Andrews has such a fluid, beautiful way of writing, that it is impossible not to get sucked into the world of Kate Daniels. In this installment, we finally find out who Kate's father is! We delve a little deeper into her past, why she has to burn her blood, and there is so much progress with her and Curran! I went to the IA website and downloaded [b:Curran POV Collection 20295040 Curran POV Collection Gordon Andrews https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1387859939s/20295040.jpg 28129200], but since each scene that is told from his POV is marked, I have only read up to this book. SO, waiting for the next book is torture. If you are late to this party like me, do yourself a favor and start, you will not be disappointed. IA has yet to fail me.
Okay I admit it. I'm completely and utterly in love with Kate Daniels and her series. The more I read, the better she gets! Kate is the whole package. She's strong, caring, snarky and can kick your ass in the blink of an eye. I cannot believe that I waited so long to start this series, but I'm more than making up for it with how quickly I'm powering through these books. Ilona Andrews knows how to write a character my friends. Oh, she knows.
My favorite part about Magic Strikes was finally getting to see the back stories of my favorite characters. I learned a lot about Kate, Jim and even Curran. The opportunity to see them at their most vulnerable, to be able to see into the raw parts of themselves, was a treat. Curran especially shines in this installment. At first I was dubious about his relationship with Kate. He was just so overbearing and, well, alpha status all the time. In this book though the sweet side of him starts to shine through. I think I'm falling for him, I'm not going to lie. It's apparent how much he adores Kate, and the smolder is starting to turn into a full blown fire!
Then there is the setting. Atlanta is back, and as magical as ever. However this time around there's the added carnage and excitement of the Midnight Games. When Kate discovers that Derek near death, she ties him to these very secretive games. Being Kate, she of course has to investigate! What ensues is a magic-filled, epic set of battles. If I thought Kate and her friends were cool before, they are off the charts now. Getting to see them use the full extent of their powers was delicious. More please!
I'm a fan of this series so I'll rave about it until the end of time. However the point remains that it truly does have it all! Andrews gives the reader well fleshed out and kick-ass characters, humor, action, and even some heart. This is the stuff of obsession. By the time I reached the end of Magic Strikes, all I wanted was more book. If you haven't started this series yet, get to it! It's well worth your time.
The first book in this series was decent and the next one was even better, but Magic Strikes made me a Kate Daniels addict. Each of these books builds on the last and this one was riveting from start to finish. It's a relatively short book but it manages to fit a lot in while maintaining a great balance between plot/action and character development/interaction.
This is a wonderful addition to the series because it is just so satisfying. At this point, Kate has become a sympathetic, fleshed out character.

This was a marvelously fun read. I don't think it will be very accessible to anyone who hasn't read books one and two, but they're not long and fairly enjoyable. I'm truly impressed with the breadth and depth of mythology Andrews uses in the series. I'm eager to read book 4!
