Do I think you should read this book? If you're just starting in Dark Romance, yes, if you're a veteran, no.
DNF at 50% ish. This book suffered the same problem that Haunting Adeline did in my opinion, if I'm reading a dark romance, I don't care that the MMC is dark. I don't need him to be some sort of philanthropist, overly-good guy to negate all the fucked up stuff he does to the FMC, I just want him to be fucked up and own it.
However, that being said, if you need your dark romance MMC's to be a good guy always in his heart of hearts, this would be a great read for you, just not what I'm looking for.
Great writing and narration, just not the characters for me.

Ahhh yet again. A perfectly delicious spicy book gets ruined by the imminent pregnancy trope.

Honestly, I almost put down this book as soon as tiktok was mentioned. But I did not. That's the main reason for the rating because I feel like it tried to "glamorize" something that is very real and it does not go the way it did in the book. The redeeming qualities were: FMC and MMC banter, acknowledging of the potential danger from the MMC, and there actually being a plot other than a social media trope and BDSM.
He’d dragged me out of the gray world I’d been living in and taught me how to see colors again.
Look, I didn't know what to expect going into this book because honestly, it felt like there was a really good chance it wasn't going to live up to the hype for me. I didn't even think I liked stalker romances that much! I guess Aly and Josh weren't the only ones learning new things about themselves here. 🤷♀️
Lights Out is literally one of the funniest, most delightful books I have ever read. There were times where I was listening to the audiobook after my family went to bed and literally was sitting there in the dark with TEARS streaming down my face from how hard I was trying to stifle my laughter, and I honestly don't know if that has ever happened to me with a rom-com. 10/10, no notes. I can't wait for book 2.
I read a final copy borrowed from the library, but for the sake of disclosure, I was also gifted an early review copy. All thoughts are honest and my own.

This was so effing good!!!!
It was so funny, but also dark and tense and sexy.
Josh was hilarious, I loved the banter and sharp/witty dialogue.
The plot took a weird detour, but along for the ride and had a great time.
Predictable at times but a very funny and light pallet cleanser. Eh... what does that say about me?
But wait, slay (literally) in paying homage to Hunting Adeline. The audiobook was perfection. Oscar worthy performance.
I loved the mess out of this book. It was like if I had an ounce of creativity or ability to write this would be the book I wrote
Listen, I'm easy to please!
I would not call this a dark romance. Josh was an absolute Golden Retriever. He became such a good cat dad 😂. Both main characters are tolerable. The second half drags on a wee bit but overall I was entertained. I listened to the audio book and the narrators (Elena Wolfe & Jacob Morgan) did a phenomenal job.
Started reading this and saw someone on TikTok say you should listen to the audiobook and... just listen to the audiobook, it's hilarious!
When TikTok says an audiobook is good & you panic buy with an audible credits and then you're kinda stuck with it but it turns out to be pretty funny even if it isn't your usual genre 😵💫 goofy n weirdly cute
The ratings are high sooo the low reviews have gotta be from a bunch of people who aren't on masktok and have no sense of humor. Like they just don't get it. Lights Out is hilarious. It knows exactly what it is and it's good at it. Who doesn't want a golden retriever book boyfriend who's funny af and hot as hell with a little bit of kink? And don't compare this to Haunting Adeline (barf). Josh and Aly are actually mildly complex characters. They're just the right kind of mess and it's great.
It's fitting I read this on the first day of autumn because spooky season thirst traps have been on my fyp for a month already and it's time to officially kick off fall ya'll! Now excuse me I have to go watch 14 more death eater toks and cry over a Dramione fanfic.
This book was SO FUN. I listened to the audiobook and the two actors were phenomenal. 10/10 recommend if you're into Dark Rom Com. It's not disturbingly dark, so a great intro. My friend called it a “palate cleanser” for dark romance
Too many references to Josh being a switch. I love alpha Josh, but I'd also like to see him tied up squirming.
4,5⭐️
This book made me laugh so much it was crazy!!! I listened to this book and let me tell you the voice actors were fenomenal I made it so much fun and worthy to listen to it.
Love the story, love the characters!! I've never read a more cute stalker in my life hahahah
4.5 stars
The first few chapters were rough. I wasn't completely into it, but I might be able to blame it on my mood??? Also, I skimmed the internal dialogue here and there. It was just way way too much. Saying all this, my 5 star rating probably doesn't make much sense, but the thing is once I started skimming and there was more dialogue and scenes of them together I enjoyed it sooo much. The last half of the book was so much fun.
I love how funny they were and how Josh is yeah a stalker and wants to watch her at all times but is also so concerned about her safety, makes her snacks, and pretty much from day 1 calls her cat his son. Just... adorable.
There is no third act breakup (yay!) and Aly is a rational character. There were a few “ehhh idk moments” but considering everything else going on, mostly believable. So all in all, the characters felt real.
Again, most of the beginning was interesting but wasn't holding my attention for more than a chapter or two, but once my mood came around and I got into the story I had an absolute blast reading it.
I cannot wait to see what this author writes next.
Yall this was such a wild ride! I picked this up on a whim on Saturday 8/3/24 and have not wanted to put it down!!! I'm finishing it on 8/6/24 at 1:15am
I loved this book! The spice was spicy. It made me laugh out loud multiple times
Josh is really just a cinnamon roll for his girl and I loved his friendship with Tyler so much
FRED! Fred was the best part of the book
Absolutely recommend
