Another great scrapbook style work by Kleon filled with some great insights and advice. Easy to read, doesn't take itself too seriously, great quotes from creative people throughout history.
Every book from Austin Kleon is like a breath of fresh air for your creativity. This one helps even more in times like these where it's hard to keep the light on and to keep going. It lights back the spark and helps to keep the will to move forward and still imagine things. It now sits in front of me every day, helping me to regain my focus and hope.
Tiny but mighty read. This book was perfect for this season of life for me. Just like the tickle in my throat before a cold, I've been feeling the warning pains before burnout sets in. This book is a lovely bit of perspective and hope for whatever ails you. It's not just productivity hacks or morning routine tips either. It will surprise you at it's depth.
Kleon's books might seem pithy, but there are actually so many nuggets of gold in them.
A new book from Austin Kleon about how to stay creative.
I am taking away a lot from this book:
(1) “How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.” Annie Dillard
(2) Make lists.
(3) Disconnect from the world to connect with yourself.
(4) Build a bliss station.
(5) Play.
(6) Slow down.
(7) I subscribed to Kleon's weekly newsletter.
(8) I hope to go see him when he visits Houston soon.
This book spoke to me in ways I didn't know I needed to hear. Kleon talks about creating as a matter of self expression only for my own sake or as a gift for a particular person and leaving the pressure of publication and social media affirmation behind. This is a healing balm for my soul. There are a number of other ideas in this book that spoke to me, as well, but this was an important one for me.
I don't remember how I became aware of Kleon's book, but I borrowed it from the library based on a recommendation. I believe that I will be going out to buy this book so I can revisit it over the coming years. I highly recommend this book to others who enjoy being creative but don't enjoy the pressure that often comes with it.
This is basically just a collection of inspiration quotes around the subject of just getting shit done even though life is hard and society is a total garbage fire.
And that's exactly what I needed right now. A lovely little hug for the soul.
Otro manual de vida, y van tres. Entretenido, sincero e inspirador. Vuelve a él de vez en cuando, siempre se aprende algo nuevo en cada lectura. 10/10.
