I re-read this beautiful book again. I was in a reading slump but SEP never fails to restore my faith in books hahah ♥ DAN & PHOEBE are everything. I'm re-reading the whole series again!
I don't read a whole lot of contemporary and I'm not a sports fan at ALL, but I absolutely loved this story!!! I'm definitely reading the entire series now. I've already ordered about half of SEP's backlist, lol!
This book was at times funny and sexy, and at other times gut-wrenching and emotional. I adored Phoebe. She is a perfect example of why you shouldn't judge a book (or a person) by its cover. You never know what may be hidden beneath the showy, in-your-face exterior. Phoebe was gutsy and strong, real and beautiful.
As for Dan...Dan was hot. :D A big, brawny manly man with hair on his chest. Yum. Together they are explosive. He doesn't take too kindly to this woman who knows nothing about football coming in and taking over, but their fights usually ended up with their hands and/or lips all over each other. Their chemistry is off the charts!
This book won a RITA award for best romance in 1995, and it's currently only 1.99 on Amazon. Hurry and snatch this one up! http://amzn.to/1WjDMI1
This was an awful book. Her father was a womanizing jerk who treated her like dirt. She's raped at 18 and of course her creep sleazebag father doesn't believe her. Then there's the so called hero of the story who goes home with a teenage girl. I have no idea idea if they had sex or not, I stopped listening to the audio at that point. I have no idea why it's gotten such high reviews.
Not as good as some of her others - the characters were odd and unrealistic and naming a football team the Stars feels childish.
Yes, it was a surprisingly good book. However, it was not an appropriate first venture into Romance. The main character had been raped as a high-schooler, so she had a lot of intimacy issues. The whole theme made me uncomfortable and the book was not the most pleasant read. Theoretically, if 33% of women have been raped in their lives, then the probably of meeting a person like Phoebe is not so slim. Still, my romances do not start with overcoming such an obstacle.
In addition, the entire beginning with the inheritance and team ownership was too unbelievable. Surely, the story would have worked on a smaller scale. Why does these authors feel the need to inflate the importance of their characters?
Despite the enjoyment of the read, it was also a bit too erotic. Every time I sit down and read I get hot and bothered. Certainly there is a place for that and it is reserved for short stories.
Will not read Phillips again...
The first series on the Chicago Stars as well as the first one of the Sommervilles girls. Now I've been waiting to read this one for a long time and once I start, I can't stop. This is where the Chicago Stars really started. This is where Phoebe Sommerville and Dan Calebow met. I know zilch about American Football but I do know that I love the Chicago Stars. I love the way they rise to success, how Phoebe and Dan make it possible for the Stars to shine. Most of all, I love Phoebe and Dan. Yes, they are not real, but who cares??
