This was incredibly interesting and gloomily beautiful. I loved the unflinching portrayal of tue characters as flawed human beings, but wish there had been a tiny bit more context/exploration of morality.
Very compelling and inspirational story.
Based on true story, the plot starts with great ambition and grand plans, with the main character on the right way to materialize them. However, small turn of events changes that completely. The novel shows how one letter or one (in)action can change the life story for better or for worse.
Moreover, the insight into ordinary life in Nazi Germany presented in the book is unlike anything I've read or seen. It shows both up and downs of the turmoil of those times in graspable manner.
The ending is one of both happy and sad ones. The aftertaste that this story leaves within the reader is one of ambition, regret and wish not to make the similar mistake like the main character did.
The whole book won't take longer than 1 hour to read. The narrative is superbly appealing.
I would recommend this book for everyone who is looking for some inspiration in times of their lives when they think they are stuck.
