It's a decent read, the characters in the book are lovable and completely relevant but the detective part is kinda flat.....not so interesting.
This book was a great read, I took a break from reading mystery/crime books and boy was I glad that my reintroduction was this story!
We find retired FBI agent Kate Wise back in the game after a string of murders occurs in her neighborhood. I was so happy to see the character of Kate Wise not being your typical hardass woman agent that we get so very often. Kate is a widow and the mother to an adult daughter who will be having her first grandchild any day. When this case falls in her lap she is granted a partial return to the FBI and given a new partner Detective DeMarco. DeMarco is in awe of working with Kate and fangirls for a brief moment....which was funny and made for the characters to seem so relatable.
The case gets out of control for Kate and she sees herself being “benched” but of course cannot stay in the background and does her own digging with the help of DeMarco. I was not prepared for the finale and was pleasantly surprised to be surprised by the suspect! I can't wait to read the second in the series.
Solid 3,5 for this retired fbi agent who goes back on duty and is still very sharp.
