Best Mihalik book so far.

A highly addicting space opera. I forgot how much I love this type of sci-fi. So much fun to read.

this was a very cut and dry romance, but it's set in space, so I still had lots of fun with it

A lot of character and world building which I loved the characters and world. Took a bit to get to the action. I am excited for the second book.

This is a fun space opera. This is a story for that time when one wants a story that feels familiar and goes the way one hopes it will. There are elements of the romance genre and a couple of erotic scenes that are racier than I'm used to. 

A somewhat predictable, trope-heavy story, whose success probably depends on how well you take to the romance. Personally, I found it a bit distracting, and sometimes it felt more like a beginners guide to asking for consent. Overall however, an efficient time-filler with echoes of Firefly.

The book club I'm in picked this one, and sort of billed it as a Firefly-esque ragtag crew space opera, which admittedly is something I'm a little tired of already. The way I interpreted was that there was a romance sub-plot. What I got was a straight up romance with an SF background. If that's what you're looking for, you'll enjoy this one. If not, don't bother. The story beyond the romance is weak, the characters are blah, and the writing is pretty juvenile. I don't read a lot of romance, but to me even that felt pretty weak and uncomfortable. It was like reading fanfic for a show I'd never watched. Maybe it's okay if you just want some light space smut, but I'd avoid it if you want an actual space opera.

Tavi and Torran with the melded crew were great with their stories, cooking and tech. I'd like to see them doing other jobs all around the universe. The concept of Luna was great.

This was a nice change from some of the post-apocalyptic tales I have been reading. When I need a break from them I usually pick up 10 cozy mysteries, but this was an even better substitute. More please!

OK I quite enjoyed the basic story. We get do or die action, a mystery to be solved, really bad guys doing nasty stuff, a small close-knit team going up against long odds – what's not to like?
Well, actually several things caused me to knock my rating down to three stars.
First, the romance angle was a bit too standard and too heavy for my taste. YMMV.

The Valovians pushed my WSOD to the limit. They appear to be humans but with magical psi abilities (telekinesis, telepathy, teleportation, healing ability, and doubtless others). WTF? How? I finally decided that they were space elves and just went with the ride.Then, everybody is soooo damn pretty, and so damn skillful and smart. Really?And my final problem -- the main character has an alien companion. It is small, cat-like, very cute, has telepathic/tele-empathic abilities, is probably smarter than you think, and its species is protected on its home world. Ring any bells? Really? That is very close to a knock-off of Honor Harrington's Nimitz, don't you think?
But still, overall I enjoyed the story. YMMV.

That got really smutty at the end.

Loved this book! Loved the world building, loved the plot twists, the romance, the characters, everything! Cant wait for the next one!

So far my favourite book of the year.  This was an easy read. Sometimes I like an easy read where it's not too intense, where the characters are likeable and you even look up the author to see what else they have written. I then read three other books from this author starting with Polaris rising.
