Tbh I enjoy more all the drama, the mystery of Genevieve death and Z business rescuing children that the spicy. Really good ending in terms of cliffhanger. Definitely getting the second to know what happens next with Daya, Jay, Z and Adeline.
Also it was just me or I had a vibe that Jay and Daya might end up together?
Dark dark dark
What a dark story! Go read Satan's Affair first if you haven't. It's more of a companion book but how it ties together is interesting. Z is stalking Adeline, he's terrifiying. His obsession with her is insane. If you love a dark book like I do, this one won't disappoint!
It was good. Crazy to be sympathetic towards a stalker, but I was. Lol Looking forward to book 2.
Is it too much to ask for these og self/indie pub romances to have decent writing? like my god it's always shit haha
I'm not going to yuck someone's yum I can't see the appeal but please skip this book. This book is just poorly written and bland... and fucking boring.... There are other books that should take up your time that are sexier and actually well written.
questioning my sanity because i rationalised pretty much everything zade did lmfao.
lots of toe-curling, mouth-hanging-open bits in the book...
The potential to be a guilty pleasure, I-can't-believe-I-read-this-stuff, 5 star read was there but the execution was not a 100%.
□ The writing/editing felt slightly messy but we breezed through wattpad in 2016, so this was a cakewalk.
□ The ‘mystery' plotline seemed weak and just felt like an attempt to add something to the plot (not saying i hated it tho; i didn't even expect a mystery plotline going into this book so there's that)
Overall very entertained, so we will be reading the next book (preparing myself)
I couldn't get through it. Not entirely sure why. A little triggering and weird at first so it never grabbed me.
DNF-ed at 70%
I get that its a dark romance but how Zade treats Adeline doesn't make sense when he does what he does for a job.
Also I kept puking internally, every time he said ‘baby girl.'
I honestly do not know what to feel reading this book. It's a little too much, I guess? But I can't stop. I can't stop reading it.
Also, Adeline is such a dull and boring character.
Dark, spicy and a total pageturner!
To be honest, I've only read this book because it got picked by my book club. I was kind of hesitant to read it, since I've heard a lot of people who didn't finish it and/or said it was too dark for them.
But OMG.. I really, really tried not to like this book and I failed completely. The cat and mouse game got me hooked. The tension between the main characters is so intense and when it gets s3xual.. Oof!
So I did it. The first book I read on KU was
Haunting Adeline by H. D Carlton... Cat and mouse book 1
Yikes is all I can say. That book had so many triggers in it even a gunslinger would have trouble out shooting it haha (see what I did there?). This book is so heavily pushed on instagram that I had to get KU (kindle unlimited) to see what all the fuss was about....
I pulled in at once. Adeline has this stalker that won't leave her alone but she is drawn to him and she spends her time trying to work out who killed her grandmother. It was well written but no word of a lie.... I sat there trying to remember how to talk after I was finished.
It was a solid 5 star read for me but I just don't understand why everyone goes nuts for Zade. He's so unhinged. It's toxic AF. If some dude stalked me and did all the stuff he did... I would be changing my name and heading to Morocco..
Read the synposis for those of you who, by some miracle, has never heard of this book... If you love dark dark DARK AF books... you have likely already fallen down this rabbit hole but if not... IF NOT... I dare you to give this one a shot.
Zade had the whole ‘I am very bad ass' thing that made me cringe, the way he talked himself up was unattractive to me. I also detested the way he became obsessed with Addie, he saw a photo of her out front of her book signing and immediately stopped in his tracks and declared her as something special and not like anyone else. Really? I couldn't help but roll my eyes. I also found the double standards he set for himself laughable, he goes after paedophiles and men that hurt women, he finds them despicable and has no qualms getting rid of them but it's perfectly fine for him to torment Addie?
Addie was also an annoying character, she had absolutely no self preservation skills, and was definitely not as concerned about her psycho stalker as she should have been.
I feel like a lot of the character flaws could be chalked up to bad writing, the dialogue was so overly dramatic and formal at times, it was a little ridiculous.
I must admit that I did enjoy them together somewhat, regardless of their flaws, but I lost interest with Zade and Addie and was finding the book difficult to finish. Truthfully I found myself more invested in Gigi's story.
Love how fresh this felt!!! Great book, one of my all time favs dark romances of all time
I really wanted to love it more but this book was okay. Maybe I went in with too many expectations, I wanna say it didn't live up to the hype. I feel like the last couple of pages really made me invested in reading the second one just to see how the story ends but i'm not too excited.
I also just couldn't get behind some of the stuff Zade does. Everyone was so obsessed with him on social media and when i read the story i was soooo disappointed. Besides being a huge ass hypocrite, he was also just a mediocre MMC. Nothing special, nothing great and a whole lot of red flags I couldn't bring myself to ignore.
the cliffhanger at the end wasn't giving what everyone said it would give. the romance is weird as fuck, i love a good dark romance but this one was meh. the start is so goddamn boring like i wanted to dnf this at least 10 times. it wasn't for me and i will not be reading the sequel. 2 stars for good writing tho
DNF. I couldn't finish this garbage. I liked the premise of this book but as soon as Zane raped Addie with his gun, I was pretty much done with the book. I held on until chapter 26, when I realized that it wasn't going to get any better. A woman falls in love with her rapist? Come on! And Addie makes women look bad, she really is a mouse; Weak, childish. Dumb.
I was expecting some BDSM or something dark, but none of this is consensual. I am disgusted, not just for the plot, but also because this got so many rave reviews on TikTok. Did we read the same book?? Women are swooning over Zane! I read/ tried to read this book because it got such amazing reviews. Zane is a misogynist manipulator who pretends like he has morals. Is this what “dark romance” is? Hard pass. I've read other dark romances and had no problems with dark themes and domineering men, but this “romance” is ridiculous. If Addie didn't just roll over and do everything he says or if she defended herself in some way, maybe the story would be more believable.
I cant even put a normal rating on this book, nor the Hunting Adeline one. I ‘ve been sitting on waiting to write a review for them, for about one week after finishing both... no, after I devour both. But I can't put a simple star rating for neither of them.
This is so dark that it makes the fact that I liked the writing and the storytelling weird. The fact that some people fantasize about Zate, makes everything even more weird and leaves me with a weird feeling about our life choices.
H.D. Carlton writes perfectly, the stories are smart, and the keep you up in night.
Read the TW and please read this with an open mind, without making abuse something romantic.
Well fucking DNF. Do people advertise it as some “dark romance” whatsoever? Since when sexual assault is romantic? I can't believe they poison so many young girls and make them think this is love. No, love is not always rainbows or cotton candies. That's why there is a genre called dark romance. But making sexual assault something sexy? Go ask someone who had a psycho stalker is it thrilling? Or someone gets touched without consent, is it sexy? You will get your answer. I have so much to say but I won't spend one more second on this nonsense.
Very dark - be sure to check TW prior to reading
This takes “touch her and die” to a whole new level
4.5 stars
OH MAN. This book was fucking DARK. I knew what I was getting into due to hints from booktok and reading the novella. But I wasn't sure I was expecting that much. I'm not usually one to read horror or suspense, but this had just enough to keep me interested. Not to mention that the spice was SPICY!!! Definitely check the trigger warnings on this one, ya'll. And that cliffhanger?! UGH. Starting Hunting Adeline ASAP!!!
