In a future Earth, the world is divided into sections because of an ancient great war triggered by the availability of nano technology. One of these sections follows a religious cult where Dzin is followed. A junior master of dzin, Tyndel, is assigned as a teacher/mentor to a very small hamlet. Now this particular culture calls anyone who has nonos in their bodies Demons - whom they seek to destroy. Tyndel is infected with nanos by the crazed and evil father of one of his students. When he escapes from the cave he was confined in - tied hand and foot - his world crumbles into extreme loss and escape into the land of demons is his only option if he wishes to survive. From there on, life has many surprises for Tyndel, and he has many surprises for the elite of Earth. Another enjoyable book from the hand of Mr. Modesitt.
