Ghost Squad was a cute and short middle grade but nothing really past that. It held its own in terms of characters and plot but I don't think it'll be a book I remember much of. The book shined in the characters and their relationships with each other, which was nice to see. I liked that Lucely (our main character) and Syd were such close friends and how Syd stuck by Lucely.
It's not that I didn't like the plot, it was easy enough for a middle grade but that was about it. Nothing really further to it. I've read other middle grade books with better plots so I know it can be better. But I think this book will be the perfect match for another reader.
This is a good middle grade ghost story. It has high stakes and quirky family members to help the girls. Sal and Lucely are strong, brave, and funny. The various cultures that contribute to the ghosts and solutions set the book apart from the average middle grade ghost story.
This is the most adorable story about ghosts, family and witches.
So sweet! Really enjoyed the audiobook.
I really liked this one. Great characters, ghosts, witches. Perfect for the spooky season.
This is a really fun idea and I'm glad for more variety of this kind of spooky book to provide to tweens! I think the “Stranger Things meets Coco” is a pretty good comp and I know there are tons of young readers who will be eager for that.
That said for me as an adult reader, I think I just often struggle with middle grade books for being a bit silly and simplistic? Which is like...how they should be for their target audience, which is not me.
