Episode Thirteen

It was good until it wasn't. Ending is a big wtf. Not my fave DiLouie.

While the “found footage” narrative framing was undoubtedly the weakest aspect, “Episode Thirteen” ultimately transcends its haunted house setting to delve into profound philosophical questions about the nature of perception and the existence of ghosts.

This was fun but then it was just kinda... eh

Gotta see if there is a movie. If not, I kinda need one yesterday.

I listened to the audiobook while reading which was a cool experience with so much mixed media. However, it became very convoluted yet repetitive. I liked the first third, but the rest didn't do it for me 

i'm so disappointed i didn't love this one because i love suffer the children by craig dilouie and it was one of my most anticipated of the year. this was super slow and long for no reason. you would think it would be slow to gradually build tension to the explosive ending but there was no tension just boredom. i loved the format of this book and how it translated to an audiobook. the audiobook is over the top but i enjoyed it. the ending is what saved this for me tho. it was a phenomenal ending and giving along the lines of as above so below but everything else was boring asl.

I adored Suffer the Children, though I wouldn't put Episode Thirteen above it. Suffer the Children was something I haven't read before. It was unique in its subject. Episode Thirteen reminded me of a mix between House on Haunted Hill (1999 film) and House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. Not saying this is a bad thing, but it gave me familiar ties and wasn't something I was super wowed about. All in all it was a good spooky book. I enjoyed the journey and the ending was a nice touch! As for rating, that is the real hard part. I am rounding up to a 4 because of how it is laid out and how the audio is kind of its own separate entity.If you can I would suggest reading the ebook or physical and listening to it at the same time!

Was at 4 stars till about the last hour or hour and a half (read via audiobook). For me the ending felt a bit flat after the build up. So, it went to 3 stars for me.

This was like the love child of Grave Encounters, House of Leaves and As Above So Below. Really fun!

I know everyone is already talking about this book. Here are my thoughts:
It's very, very readable. Overall, it's a pretty decent haunted house story, what sets it up and above (for me) is the second layer of the property being used in the 70's as a paranormal science experiment lab.
There are a few truly scary scenes, more if you are claustrophobic. I thought the characters were well-rounded and had decent bonds with each other. I never once had to question why any of the characters did what they did or why they did it because DiLouie lets us into their heads and we feel we know they by the time the s hits the fan.
Highly recommend for horror fans.
