Battle-scarred and weary, the mighty Bazil Broketail and Dragoneer Relkin return to their village of Quosh to cheering crowds, great feasts and raging bonfires. But their peaceful return is short-lived when out of the mists and across the green valleys of their native lands comes the savage clamor of war, pitting Bazil and Relkin against an enemy more terrifying than any they have confronted before: Waakzaam, the Deceiver, Dominator of Twelve Worlds.

Through diabolical schemes of treachery and bloodlust, this ancient evil has drawn the Empire to the very brink of annihilation. Cut off from the Legions, Relkin must rely on his own untested and frightening powers of magic to save the Empire. Powers that he alone cannot control.
