Dodgers

I never finished it. The writing starts out strong, but then meanders away and the characters and plot get lost and maybe it hits some sort of strong conclusion, but after 200 pages I felt okay never seeing it.

I admit that I was skeptical at first. A story about a young black LA gang kid? By a white guy? But, wow, this is one terrific book. The character of East is not exactly sympathetic–he does some bad stuff–but I do respect his seriousness of purpose. And whether he's an authentic gang-banger I have no idea, but he sure had me fooled. The details seemed spot-on, all the way through. This must have been one very hard book to write. Very well done. Highly recommended.

Mostly slow, too much id stuff going on.
