A lot of things happened, but I wouldn't be able to tell you what is it about
It was going really well until the climax and then it was like the author stopped caring? The last few chapters are like early drafts or notes for a scene yet to be written. Ruined the book for me.
I don't know why it took me so long to read this. Easily distracted by shinier books? But here I am reading it at a very particular time. It is, of course, incredible and it makes sense that it won the Printz. I think I'm just going to think about it for a while. The way it all came together, the plotting, the characters, the potatoes - perfection.
Dig your way out.
Wow, a Printz winner for a reason. Felt like the exact right amount of surrealism here to get her points across but not be overly didactic. Metaphorical and twisty and smart and emotional, a meditation on a family's original sins and how they pass from one generation to the next, with the current generation finally working to make changes together. This will probably be in my top 5 reads this year.
It took me a day or so to get into the flow of reading this due to how it's written but I ended up enjoying it overall. A.S. King has a strong and sure writing technique that once I got it down it made all the themes and messages of what they were writing come together.
I think this would be a better read if I had a physical copy compared to an audiobook
Holy s*** this made me so uncomfortable and I wouldn't change a thing about it. What can I even say? Will try and add to this review after further consideration.
Jesus Christ, this is incredible. I think my new favorite of her books, and I love all of her books.
