This book has been on my currently reading shelf for over 15 days. Now for someone who reads 1 to 2 books a day this is an extremely long time. I was giving this book the benefit of the doubt because I know I haven't been in the best of reading moods, but I keep trying to read more and I'm just not clicking with it.
This novel has a lot of great things going for it. It has a magic, awesome characters — I adore the main character and mats I think they're absolutely brilliant — and the romance is the best of slow burns. I think this is why I tried so hard to keep reading this book because it has so many things going for it that I truly enjoy. When I try to think about what I don't like about the book I don't know what it is. I'm halfway through the book and I just don't care. I also think what Tisaanah is going to be really stupid, so yes, I love her, but sometimes she makes really ridiculous decisions and they do make sense though, so this isn't a complaint about her character.
I'm sure it feels like I am DNFing the book right as it is about to get going in the action is about to take off, but I shouldn't have to get halfway through work to get to that I'm just not invested anymore. And again as someone who reads a book quickly I am just tired of trying to push myself.
So my concluding thoughts, if the synopsis interests you and you're patient I do think you should give this book a try. It is written well, I did laugh, there were times I had fun. It's just not for me, but it could definitely be for you.
DNF'd at 50%. Basically for all the reasons the other folks DNF'd or rated the book at about 2 stars.
Make it make sense cause it doesn't. Who barely gets accepted into a group and turns around and starts demanding group give her ppl to go save slaves. Especially when she was just told they want no issue with other country. Boring, didn't like characters and makes no damn sense.
I enjoyed this book a lot! even more than crowns of Nyaxia, I'd put this book leveled with Six Scorched Roses also by Carissa Broadbent, which is one of my favorite books ever read. Definitely a good read, with a nice world-building, character development and an intriguing politics system. The magic system still is a bit confusing to me, maybe because it wasn't shown, just kind of explained in the beginning, but ok... I hope with the reading of the next two books I'll get to understand it better.
This book does have some triggers to keep in mind:
Carissa writes very beautifully and, to my taste, with respect and justice about these topics that are not easy to put in any book nor any context, but it is also important to mention so you enjoy your reading instead of being stressed or triggered.
Really enjoyed this book. Devoured in 2 days.
The characters have depth, flaws and quick wit.
Some of the magic was quite convenient, but the book remains fast paste and enjoyable.
3.5 stars. I had a hard time with some of the. . . Second language aspects. It felt more like she wrote in a rush and kind of took me out of the story a bit.
Tisaanah is a slave, and she manages to escape, and she makes her way to the orders. The strongest magic wielded, where in order to get accepted she is tossed at a man for an apprenticeship. Now, Max, doesn't want to teach her, but eventually he does. After some time, she passes her test, and they head of the orders wants her to take on a “raw power”. She agrees in exchange for freeing the other slaves from her previous home.
Anyways, I did enjoy the plot, I felt like the romance was odd though. It kinda of popped up out of nowhere for me.
This book was really, really good. Main characters were so fun and loveable and tragic. Only had to skip 1 spicy scene haha. Overall loved this
4,5 Stars very nice fantasy with a hint of romance.
It got me out of a deep reading slump.
Zeryth is everything from power-hungry to selfish and everything in between. Max is downright amazing. This book was something!
Easily a favorite book of the year. Hell, a favorite book of all time. This was so good. So freaking good. Scenes from this book will live in my head rent free for the foreseeable future. And Max? Maybe my favorite male lead like ever.
3.75/5
I won't lie and say it was great, because it wasn't. The writing was easy to get through but there is something about fantasy that a person needs special talent to be able to explain the world building, the terms, the connection to one thing to the next. It lacked here in my opinion.
The characters were likable, but i didn't feel any deep connection to them. They were not relatable (of course not) and the chemistry was sometimes present and sometimes not.
Will i read the second book? Probably not
Surprisingly wonderful. Though it shares similarities with other novels in the same genre, the characters are unique and unexpected.
THE WRITING, THE CHARACTERS, THE DESCRIPTIONS, EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT!!
I was not expecting this book to be this good honestly, but this surpasses all my expectations, if I could give it 6 stars I would. Omg

I picked this one up on a recommendation from a childhood friend – she said it was similar in feel to ACOTAR, and well, it was on KU, so it wasn't like I had to work to find a copy. Ultimately, Daughter of No Worlds felt more than a little stale. A slave girl ends up killing the man who owned her, and rescues herself in order to get revenge. There's magic – moon and sun magic – and a mysterious powerful entity that gets implanted into the main character's mind. That part, at least, was unique!
But what really ruined the book for me was the writing itself. It was so mind-numbingly repetitive, and this book clocks in at 520 pages. It's not exactly short! The sentence structure rarely varied. The main character apparently thought about two things - training and rescuing her friends. That was it. Speaking of training, that's almost what the whole novel is. I think the first three-quarters of the book is Tisaanah training. There's minimal world building, and what there is feels lackluster at best. The romance – the reason I really wanted to read this – doesn't really become a thing until like...the last couple of chapters. There's one fade-to-black sex scene that's almost entirely steamless.
Also I just want to throw this one out here – why on earth would you give the main character a name like Tisaanah and not include a pronunciation guide. I hated her name. Every time I saw it I cringed. Everyone else has relatively normal/easy-to-pronounce names.
I know other people will like this one, but it just wasn't for me.
Wow this was a disappointment!
It wasn't bad by any means but I loved The Serpent and the Wings of Night so much that reading this afterward was not the right move.
This just felt so lacklustre, quite bland and so surface level in comparison. I felt no connection to any characters and wasn't really compelled to read it at any point and had to push through it at parts.
The book cover is appalling and, had I not seen reviews from people I follow I would never have picked it up to read.
However, I am glad that I did as I have quite enjoyed the story and am excited for the sequels.
The story follows Tisaanah, who was a slave since she was 13 years old and manages to get the money required to buy her freedom at 21. She has some magical powers and dreams of joining the Order, to learn to further develop her powers to be able to use it to free the slaves. She ends up training with Max, an ex-soldier who have quitted working with the Order for the last 8 years.
What I liked about the book:
- Strong, determined, and resilient female lead, willing to work to achieve what she wants and with a selfless final purpose.
- Interesting worldbuilding and connections between the characters.
- Interesting side characters that I want to know more about.
- Engaging and well written story, even if a bit long.
What I think it could have been done better:
- I've found bits of the story a little repetitive. Although I haven't had any issues about the pacing, I saw several reviews complaining about it and I think addressing this issue could have led to a slight shorter book, more appealing to some readers.
- Tisaanah has an extreme reaction to killing her master, suffering for months with the kill. I understand why this would happen, but I find it a bit inconsistent with her personality and later reaction to similarly hard situations.
Overall and engaging story that I would recommend for fantasy/ fantasy romance readers.
