Cauldron

What would've been a four star book is reduced to three by weak characterization (characters acting extremely stupid at times, character personalities changing at random) and some truly amazingly lazy writing (unfortunately to elaborate would be spoiler ridden).

This book was somewhat better than the previous entry which was hard to read because McDevitt clearly held much of the previous novel's main concepts in contempt. If I had been McDevitt, if I disliked a concept so much, I wouldn't have written about it.
