I love anything to do with Wizards and Magic. This is a very well written story, with similarities to Harry Potter. I love the characters and the quest they are on to solve the mystery and save the magical world they live in. The ending certainly has you wanting to read Wayward Son and continue the story of Simon Snow.
Does anyone else get strong Remus and Sirius vibes from the cover art?? Just me...? But honestly this was a really cute read. A little all over the place at points - the style of the writing can be hard to get used to, but I adjusted decently and enjoyed the book overall.
I don't know if I would say that it's "good" but it did have a devastating emotional impact on 13 year old me. A fun time.
i don't have anything coherent to say about this! i was giggling, kicking my feet, rolling around my couch. i already bought a physical copy to reread and tab up, and ordered a copy of the second book too. it was just so CUTE!!!!
This review is just to help me remember key points about the book. If you find it helpful or relatable that's cool too.Pride Month Edition
On one hand I feel like this book could have had more... there were characters that I feel would have had much more impact on the story if they were just giving a little more time.
On the other hand this was a YA fantasy that was already more than 500 pages. I get why an author would have to tone things down.
Overall I didn't expect to fall in love with this book as much as I did ;v;
DNF... should I start caring about these characters at some point? There is nothing interesting here, and my time is precious. So let's DNF and move on to greener pastures.
A fun read! I listened to this on audiobook and found myself happy to press play. It reminded me a bit of Harry Potter, but I suppose anything with a wizard and a school would. I really felt a connection with the characters and wanted them all to be happy. It was a simple story and plot and nothing too deep which is why I rated it three stars. Overall the book was an easy read and I would recommend it to those who enjoy magical reads!
Never again. I'm giving it two stars because Baz was the only character I liked.

I was almost gonna dnf this while reading the first few chapters but when Baz entered the scene I COULDN'T STOP READING!!! Just kept flipping pages coz it suddenly became so interesting. The chemistry between Baz and Simon is SOOO cuteeeee and I have prob reread their cute moments abt 5 or 6 times each lol
Lovee the book and the main characters!!!(except Agatha)
Read it!!!!!
Fav quotes.
1)”It's going to be okay.” Baz wraps both arms around him. “It's all right, love.”Everything is starting to make sense.”2)“Simon Snow is still going to die kissing me.Just not today.”3)“You were the sun, and I was crashing into you.”4)“It's the good things that hurt when you're missing them.”5)“He's not a monster. He's just a villain. He's not a villain. He's just a boy. I'm kissing a boy. I'm kissing Baz.”6)“And sometimes holes want to get bigger, but Baz was wrong—sometimes they just want to be filled.”7)“I am going to die kissing Simon Snow. Aleister Crowley, I'm living a charmed life.”8)“Just when you think you're having a scene without Simon, he drops in to remind you that everyone else is a supporting character in his catastrophe.”9)“I was eleven years old, and I'd lost my mother, and my soul, and the Crucible gave me you.”10)“I let myself slip away... Just to stay sane. Just to get through it. And when I felt myself slipping too far, I held on to the one thing I'm always sure of - Blue eyes. Bronze curls. The fact that Simon Snow is the most powerful magician alive. That nothing can hurt him, not even me. That Simon Snow is alive. And I'm hopelessly in love with him.”
The pacing is annoying and I never really got into it cause it can't be enjoyed as a simple parody but the characters are too absurd to let it be a straight-up YA fantasy romance.
4.5 stars - I really appreciated the thoughtful blend of magic, action and romance! Although the story took a little while to get going, once things were rolling there was a lot to really enjoy! Looking forward to starting the sequel and continuing my adventure with Simon and Baz!
THIS FILLS ALL MY GAY LITTLE DESIRES AND IM HERE FOR IT!
I love this book so much! I haven't read Fangirl, so I'm sure that's why I feel like I'm just thrown into the middle of the story without any proper introduction, but i sort of like it that way, as I can dive into these interesting and complex relationships without having to see all the stuff before.
One small complaint, can people stop saying he (or she) in this book like they forgot women exist? Men aren't the default, not anymore. This is 2015, not 1915.
Other than that, I loveddddd this book!
I loved the characters - especially Baz, so conflicted.
The story moves along quickly, and the story is quite funny - mostly situational humor.
There is quite a bit more kissing than I enjoy in books, but it is sweet, and these poor kids need all the fun and sweetness they can get.
I had never even considered getting this book until I heard someone talking about it on booktube. I thought it was just a silly romance and not for me. Then I saw that video, and there are mages and magic and I was intrigued.
Yes, there is a bit of romance, but I didn't feel like it took away from the story.
I listened to the audiobook and it is fantastic! I had so much fun listening to this.
I will definitely listen to the rest of the series.
No geral, gostei. Depois de passar aquelas primeiras 100 páginas, consegui realmente desfrutar da leitura, dos personagens e do universo.
I don't know. I feel kinda conflicted about this book.
I liked it, but I also was dissappointed by it? (doesn't really make sense lol)
Whilst reading the book I kept getting distracted by everything happening around me, which only happens when I am not that invested in the book. When I started reading I felt confused, since my reading experience was screaming I was reading the second installment (which was false of course). This book had a lot of flashbacks without really going in the depth of it.
But ... I did give it three stars and it definitely deserves that! After almost 200 pages the story started to get strong! I really liked how it all went from there. Except for the ending, that felt rushed.
Overall, it's a decent book. :)
Meh...
