I binge-read this one, and I did see the twist coming. Frankly, I don't understand how stupid a person could be to not notice their girlfriend is right in front of them. But I enjoyed it nonetheless.
Recensie van audioboek (via Storytel)
Onderhoudende thriller - vooral in audioboek - met een compleet belachelijke ontknoping.
It was ok for a domestic thriller... if you don't mind perpetually suspending your disbelief and ignoring gaping plot holes.
This was a fairly interesting domestic thriller which I listened to on audio, however I wasn't completely blown away by the writing or the reveals. Some of the writing was a little awkward and clunky, although this did improve as we worked further through the story and I guessed the ending before it happened so was a little underwhelmed. A bit of a middle of the road one for me!
I received a copy of this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review
3.5 stars
When I picked this book up I was in the mood for a thriller– heart-pounding, edge of your seat, thriller. That isn't exactly what I got. I still definitely would call this a thriller and there were moments that were creepy or elicited an “Ohhh” from me. So, a different type of thriller than I was expecting.
This was such an interesting read. I thought I knew who the villain was and then changed my mind– even on the crime! In fact, I didn't have things figured out until almost 2/3rds of the way through the book. Which is a decent amount of time for me to have fun deciding what is going on. The twists aren't all over the place and the suspense, for me at least, was constantly there (albieth a low tide).
I think what bothers me the most is the secrets... I don't see why people would keep things secret from their partners, so I just kept rolling my eyes at how he was sharing what was going on with people outside of his future-marriage. Like... if you can't count on your potential spouse, then why even be with them?
And the big plot twist... just didn't work for me. Perhaps I'm tired of this trope? Or I've just read some really REALLY good ones that use it, but I will say that the last line of the book made me think better about the trope useage and brought a smirk to my face.
This is one I would recommend to people who like thrillers or want something not as intense, gory, or murder-filled. This one is pretty tame, so I think it can be read by a wide variety of people.
What a fantastic book!
I wasn't sure what to expect with this novel, as it was an advanced reader copy, but I am super excited to have read it!
The book follows Finn, whose girlfriend disappeared 12 years earlier. He has moved on, and after announcing his engagement to his girlfriend's sister, mementos begin to appear. Is his former girlfriend back, or is there a far more sinister plot going on?
As I said, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I greatly enjoyed this book. It features a well-told mystery and plenty of red herrings to keep you guessing throughout. Based on how much I enjoyed this novel, I definitely want to check out other works by B.A. Paris.
This book was excellent. I loved this author's other book BEHIND CLOSED DOORS, so I knew I had to get my grubby hands on a copy of her new one. And disappointed I was not. I was hooked from the first page and hated to set it aside for some sleep. It was well written and fast paced. The plot was engaging and kept me turning the pages. The characters were intriguing and well developed. Now, I will say that I figured out the twist pretty early on. Or maybe it would be more accurate to say I had a theory from very early on and that theory proved to be right. That said, the author did have me doubting myself more than once as I tried to figure out what exactly was going on and who was behind it all. So I wouldn't say the twist was obvious, just that I am damn good of Sherlocking things out. (lol)
Anyway, all in all, this was another fantastic book by this author. It provided me an entertaining and much needed break from the monotony that has become the romance genre of late. Very soon I will have to pick up THE BREAKDOWN and give it a read as well. Yours truly is giving this one two huge thumbs up.
3.5 stars. This book is definitely a page-turner and hooked me from the beginning. My questions were answered at the end, which I was glad to see. If you like mystery and suspense, pick this one up and enjoy the ride.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a digital advanced review copy of this book.
B.A Paris certainly knows how to hook the reader and keep them guessing. Each time I thought I had figured out what was going on, I found I had to guess again.
