Born to Run

Raw and somewhat poetic look into the live of Bruce Springsteen (and the E Street Band). He says at the end that he hasn't shared everything but before he says that, it's not how you feel when you've reached that part of the book. If you're a fan of him, or his music, I would highly recommend this read. And the audiobook is read by him... always a bonus when read by the author.

Honestly I probably first started reading this two years ago in fits and starts. The audio book is really good, because who better to narrate Bruce Springsteen's life than Bruce Springsteen? This time through, it was comforting and interesting, thoughtful and well-written, even as much of the internal conflict falls away with the arrival of massive success. But he's honest about everything, including struggles with depression, and it's a compelling read.

This audiobook, narrated by Springsteen himself, is one of the most enjoyable book-listening experiences I've ever had. First, his writing is excellent (which I should have expected, but didn't). Second, to hear him tell his own story is pretty incredible. And third, despite being a rock superstar, he comes across as being thoroughly human. I'll be listening to his albums in an entirely different light from now on. He does occasionally go overboard on the self-reflection, but that's a minor quibble. (I also checked the book out of the library so I could look at the collection of photos at the back of the book.)

Probably not as interesting if your not a Springsteen superfan such as myself; but for me this book was fantastic. It really illuminated the parts of Springsteen's life and career that you would hear about but never got the full story on.

Bruce can write! Though I've heard many of the anecdotes before, it's good to get them straight from the Boss's mouth. Bruce's struggles with his father and, later, with depression humanize the man who (for me) is the last rock god.

Interesting writing voice. He focused a lot on his childhood and growing up. I'd like to hear more about his adulthood as well.

As a faithful follower of the Church of The E Street Band, it's no wonder that I loved this book. Bruce Springsteen wrote and honest and open account of his life and shared insight into his artistry. I'm rushing to go through my Bruce Springsteen music catalog.

Very enjoyable read of Springsteen's autobiography, reading about his life, loves, music, and family. Be prepared; like his musical lyrics, his words of prose are full of metaphors, analogies, and mental pictures that will transport you where he wants to take you. If you have any interest in “The Boss” you'll enjoy this book.

Prima leesbare autobiografie waarin je een zo op het oog eerlijk verhaal krijgt over zijn drijfveren, zijn nogal dwingende manier om een band te leiden, en de (regelmatige) mentale instortingen (met waarschijnlijk een flink genetische component). Maar ... WEL ... een beetje VEEL puntjes en !!
