Blindsighted

too gory right now

I found this pretty unpleasant with some downright nasty parts - nearly a DNF! But Slaughter managed to keep me reading (even when I'd worked it out - still wanted some vengeance). Put me off her work to be honest, I'll probably read some more but maybe give myself a break for a bit.

Georgia is the setting of the book and home to some of the grisliest depictions of violence I have ever read. Sara, the county's coroner and pediatrician, is called to a scene of absolute horror. The police are baffled; there is no evidence left at the scene, and the diner in which the murder took place had no cameras. It's immensely evil. It's beyond dark. The scene descriptions are unwavering and intense.

Enter Jeffery, the chief detective and ex-husband of Sara (who got caught cheating), is searching for any shred of evidence so he can put the murderer away. Lena, an officer who is related to the first victim, will stop at nothing to catch the culprit as well. One after another, murders take place, and Sara is seemingly in the middle of each. Is it someone related? Someone from her past? Or just a coincidence?

Quick note: Whenever a hospital scene begins in a Karin Slaughter book, get ready; it's going to get emotional, graphic, or both. Did I mention not to eat anything while reading this book?

If the psychopath is trying to get caught, they are doing a bad job at it. The disturbing clues left on the bodies point in so many directions. I mean, can we get a little levity between chapters? This is not your average CSI episode, folks. There are only about four red herrings, so your pool of possible suspects is small. Even if you guess who it is, it does not stop you from being shocked at some of the connections towards the end.

The characters internal monologues are top-tier. The author knows what you are thinking in certain situations, so she internalizes questions that are probably brewing in your head into her characters. You then have a front-row seat to witness how the character reacts to what is happening. Do they lie about it, skirt the truth, or draw a line that is somewhere in between? It's exciting, and that's just one of the reasons I love her writing style.

Flash forward: The ending is great. A will they, won't they, that feels so realistic. I am incredibly excited and somewhat nervous to start the next one. I might need a palate cleanse. Something really light. Oh, and a hug.

The trigger warnings are strong with this one. Please be warned, it deals with some extreme depravity.

i had such a good time reading this book and karin really knows how to write a thriller that is made for me 

I can't remember the last time I stayed up until 4am reading a book!

My god, what ana amazing story and characters.

There was a point at about half way through that I had to put the book down for a couple of minutes to digest what was happening because I did not expect that at all.

I start suspecting who the killer was around 60% of the way through, so I was a bit disappointed when I found out I was right. I've read way too crime and detective novels, and see waaaaay too many tv shows to not have picked the killer based on the character and the part they played. But in saying that, when the killer was revealed it didn't make it any less interesting.

10/10 for sure and I've already downloaded the second book in the series to my kindle.

I really enjoyed Blindsighted by Karin Slaughter. This was the first book in her Grant County series. As warned, I found there were some pretty graphic and violent scenes in this book. However, we can always expect with Karen Slaughter's writing, that they're genius and you can be sure they will really get you riled up until the culprit gets caught. There I was, feeling like I was peering over the shoulders of the medical examiner and the chief of police, hinting for them to go check out what so-in-so is hiding. Thankfully, I'm not faint of heart. I was in the ICU hooked up to monitors while reading part of this book. I'm hooked on this series and love so many of the characters now that I'm going through these books fast. If you like fast-paced thrillers where you find yourself quite literally sitting on the edge of your seat, I recommend Blindsighted and Karin Slaughter's Grant County series.

Quick, easy thriller. Had me guessing up until the last few chapters. Such a twisted story, however very well written. Perfect for October.

Disappointing, this book, with a weird, gory crime and a plot that is not by far as good as you'd expext of Slaughter.

Good thriller/mystery!

Quite gruesome.. not for the faint hearted. Actually a very good first book.

Harsh and graphic, but gripping writing and decent character development. I'll definitely read the next in the series.
