i cried, my heart hurt, i wanted to jump in and throw my fists at the bigoted idiots living in that small town. but despite the heartache, i'll never say no to a story where a trans woman gets her hea in the end
Content warnings for this book: suicide (attempted), family violence, death of a parent (off-page), generalized homophobia/transphobia. All those warnings make this sound super-dark, and it did have those moments, but this definitely wasn't just misery with no end. I liked the alternating POVs between Eric and Morgan, especially as they get older. The story wraps up a little abruptly for me, and I do wish Morgan's coming out to her dad had been shown on the page, but overall I really liked this one!
This book broke my heart and put it back together again. I instantly fell in love with Morgan & Eric, and I'm so glad I got to read their story. It's a beautiful story about two teens moving through all the pain, compassion, love, and loss that accompanies growing up.
This book had me feeling all the emotions! I laughed, I cried, I smiled. Such a great portrayal of what it's like to be transgender in today's world and how hard it is to come out to your family and friends. I instantly fell in love with Morgan from the moment I picked up this book. Definitely one of my favorite reads of 2019. After reading this and If I Was Your Girl, Meredith Russo has become a favorite author of mine. I can't wait to see what she writes next. Highly, highly recommend this book!
to no surprise the trans woman author is a raging woman abuser lol
So I will find the nearest dumpster to throw this book in.
