Archivist Wasp

I don't have much to say. It was neat. Had some cool concepts. I found it way too verbose. found myself skipping or skimming paragraphs even pages to make progress.

If a ghost was a recording of a memory, as some believed, and Wasp pulled back the curtain from the third alcove on the right, she might find the wide-eyed bloody-handed ghost of herself, hugging her knees and shivering, trying to unremember the sound of her little dagger sinking hilt-deep into girlflesh, the day she earned her name.

I really enjoyed the character of Wasp, she felt incredibly real. the story sometimes was a bit confusing, but I never got too confused to continue. looking forward to hopefully learning more about the ghosts more.

I really enjoyed the change in the end of the book where Wasp saves the town and stands up for herself and the other upstarts.I am really curious about who/what the ghosts are. how her knife can connect with them etc

Beautiful and strange, bleak and brutal but every time Wasp is at the end of her rope, someone is there with a glimmer of hope to reel her back again. Cathartic in a way I hadn't expected going in.

As an archivist I was a little disappointed at the lack of archivally things. Otherwise, it was enjoyable! Epic journey into the underworld, the fucked up things people do to children for other causes, the ability to change the game. It did feel a little thin in some places - so I couldn't quite give myself over to the story completely.

Ya'll should totally read the Milkweed Triptych by Ian Tregillis (Bitter seeds, Coldest war, Necessary evil) there is no way there will be a happy ending there.
