Obviously, I was a bit hooked by the series prior to this one, cause you don't read 3 books without being a bit hooked - but this book is reallyyyy when I got hooked.
I loved getting deep into the nitty gritty of the details of Lana's past & the town where so much of her trauma stemmed from. We're so close to the end game, and you just know that Lana & Jake have something brutal planned. 😏
And it's back! This book is likely my favorite so far in the series. The suspense had me flying through the pages and the cliff hanger has me running to the next book now.
Such a fun series to read!!
I hate Logan, I hate him so much for raping her like that without hearing what was her motives on the case. I hate him for real. He is hella toxic. He has zero rights to treat her like that.
Lordddd have mercy!
Read the TW for this one specifically bc it all gets laid out and it's GRAPHIC
Shit is going down and I'm here for it. I liked the way Logan's investigation into the serial killer and Delaney Grove progressed, how he -and we along- started to piece things together. Lana is a really compelling character: she has flaws and her moral compass is fucked up, but I can't blame her. Leonard's moral struggles were also really interesting to read about.
I read The Risk last year but I decided to reread it before continuing on in the series this year just so things were fresh in my mind when jumping into the second book. Destiny and I had planned to buddy read the entire series as part of our 29 in 29 challenge we are attempting this month but after reading the first book she decided to DNF the series but I continued on with them.
This is a 5 book series and each of the books are less than 200 pages and can easily be read in one sitting. I was instantly hooked after reading book one and very intrigued by the premise. I don't think I've ever read a book where there is a romance between and FBI agent and a serial killer. I really needed to know how this could possibly work out.
From the first book you can tell that something happened to Lana when she was younger. We don't know the full extent but we get a good idea of what it was. It isn't until the 4th and 5th book where we find out the true extent of everything that happened. The author doesn't hold back on the details about what happened so please if you are someone who is easily triggered look into the triggers of this series before picking it up.
As I mentioned this is a romance between an FBI agent and a serial killer. Obviously Logan isn't aware that Lana is the killer he's been looking for. The romance is very insta love. Logan didn't start bothering me until the second book and from there on he did something in each of the books that annoyed me and pissed me off. I was most intrigued by finding out how a romance between a serial killer and an FBI agent could work and lets just say by the end I wasn't disappointed.
You definitely have to suspend disbelief while reading these books but it made for a fun read. Each book ends on a cliffhanger which was so frustrating for someone who hates cliffhangers. The final book was actually my favorite of all 5 books but as a whole the series get a 4 star rating from me.
rating - 3.5 / 5
the low rating only because this book was literally everything i was dreading, since i started the series. All the gory details, Logan finding out. It's all in there.
“I'm Victoria Evans. The daughter of the man you killed. The sister to the boy you let die. The victim you turned into a monster. And I'm going to kill you all.”
They think Lana is Kennedy, which makes no sense; And they're literally the fbi, but okaayy. Can't wait for him to find out the rest of the story.
“what you do for a living does not determine if you're a monster,”

That ending. Cliffhangers get me every time.
Lots of killing details in this one.
I really like Hadley and Jake. I love secondary characters that are awesome. I hope they have a scene together in the book.
too slow paced for me at the beginning but once shit started going down i loved it
Wooooow loved it so much

Oh wow the respect I have for Lana is immense. I was so close to tears and my heart feels broken with everything that was revealed here.

I AM ON EDGE. I dont even know how to rate these anymore. This one is by far the most descriptive of gore, violence, and sexual violence. Definitely the hardest to read on that front so just be aware. This small town setting though is ENGROSSING (not in a good way) and I cannot stop until I know how this ends.
