What a creepy story!

A little 4 year old girl slips past her babysitter to the road. A couple driving by in a car quickly snatch her up and tuck her into their car. In seconds they are gone with Sarah's little sister. Laurie was traumatized by these people for 2 years while her parents were eaten alive with worry and Sarah felt guilty for not being there with her. One day someone saw Laurie and called the police. The couple quickly abandon Laurie and she is reunited with her family. They were happy to have her back but they knew she wasn't the same.

When Laurie is at collage a tragedy strikes that takes the lives of both of their parents. Laurie breaks mentally and her doctor realizes that she has multiple personalities. The doctor tries to help Laurie open up about what happened during those two years but she is scared to death that her kidnappers will come back for her if she tells. When one of her professors is found murdered and the knife is found with her fingerprints on it, she is charged with the gruesome crime and her sister has to defend her in court. It seems hopeless but as the doctor and his team talk to her multiple personalities they finally start to piece together some details about what happened to her during those two years. Sarah hopes they can figure out a way to use that to save her sister from a life in prison.

I'm giving this 3 stars because some things bothered me, as usual with MHC books. First of all, I'm not sure what year this was set it but I have a hard time believing that a stranger could have a private detective investigate someone and find out their daily schedule, that they were seeing a psychiatrist and when etc. I know it was probably before HIPAA but still, that's a bit too much for me. Also, a hate it when a character can almost remember something important.... almost. Something is so familiar but they can't quite put a finger on it. How annoying. That is more frustrating than thrilling to me.

I do enjoy these older, creepy books, but it's funny how dated some things are.
