Okay..so I've read this novel a long time ago but I remember it just like yesterday so this is my first proper review with spoilers
Tessa is a miss goody two shoes who always obeys her mom and her dad left them when she was a kid and she has a high school boyfriend.
So she gets into WSU and the story starts from there.
She meets Steph her roommate bad girl and Hardin bad boy
And you can guess the rest
PS: DON'T READ THE BOOK IF YOU'VE WATCHED THE MOVIE CAUSE
1)THE MOVIE SUCKS
2) SUSPENSE WILL BE OVER
I remember reading it back in the old days when Wattpad was mainstream and this series only had two books (which were yet to be published officially ). This book is absolutely a shizshow, I have never hated any book as much as I hated this book, it has all the cringe troupes some could ask for ‘not like other girls' ‘playboy/pure virginal girl' ‘all the other women are slut' and some more that I don't remember exactly. after I got to 80% I thought yep this is the queue for me to leave Wattpad forever and I am glad I did.
-1000 stars out of 5 stars, I wish I could delete it from my brain. It has no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
I am having a hard time figuring out how I feel about this book. This series is long, with the first book being over 500 pages, but I read it in a matter of days. I became fully engrossed in the series and I couldn't wait to get to the next book.
BUT...
This is where I feel like a fucked up individual. If I absolutely love a book, I fall in love with the characters. (As most people do.) So of course I fell in love with Hardin. My struggle is that he is definitely an abusive character. The shit that comes out of his mouth makes me want to punch him in the throat. (Ha! Now I'm the one being abusive.) But seriously, I am not okay with a lot of things that he does and/or says. He's mentally and verbally abusive and if I met someone like him in real life, I would legit run the other way. He treats her badly most of the time and I hate that I love him so much. I absolutely love Tessa, I feel like the Author writes her very well. She still infuriates me at times, but she is very relatable. If anything, this book shows how easy it is to get caught up in an abusive relationship.
I really did enjoy this series, but I can't give it more than 3 stars. I don't want girls thinking it's ok to be treated this way, because it's not. I will definitely be finishing the series, I just hope that it gets better.
I'm gonna start with a controversial opinion!!! Molly was the most interesting and honest character of the whole book.
Hardin sucked as a character... nothing redeeming, nothing good. Honestly, can't tell if Anna Todd loves or hates Harry Styles!!! Tessa was an annoying, cheating, slut shaming, little girl. Hated them both.
Justice for pink haired snake/part-time hoe Molly!!
It was very long, I think a lot could have been trimmed out. Overall it was a good, there's a good hook at the end and plot twist that makes you want to read the next one.
So here's the thing - 2 stars for sheer popularity. It's fickle, and you never quite know what will catch the fancy of the public, and that in itself is interesting and powerful. I actually saw the movie first, and became curious about the book after. No surprises here - the narrative is lacking in a distinct voice, plot, storytelling, chapter structure, lots and lots of things that I'm sure have been said a thousand times over here, but it's a lot like watching the Kardashians. I'm not a reality tv fan, but you know sometimes you're doing something else and it comes on, and then you kind of glimpse at it and maybe become intrigued about how this craziness will resolve itself? That's this book. My main motivation was to see how it differed from the movie, because I enjoyed that quite a bit. It was cute, it had some good Jane Austen quotes, and charismatic leads which I really enjoyed watching.
This - well, not so much. But hey, props to Todd for catching that elusive popularity wave with her book on a phone and riding it straight into the box office. I'll be watching the movie again soon, and forgetting I ever read this.
Ok. So ... this was definitely not the book for me. It was way too repetitive for my liking and I don't really like Hardin all that much, he makes me so mad and frustrated.
Tessa is also so whiny, mehhhh. And I HATE how she treated Noah, the perfect high school boyfriend.
I did like Landon though. He was nice :).
Even though I didn't like this book, it still is so easy to read. The writing style is simplistic. I am kind of curious to see if the story gets better in the next couple of books, but I don't know ... :')
Reading it because the movie is coming out and wanted to be able to compare it to the book...
What?!?
I regret reading this book. I only did because there's a movie coming out. In relationships, it should go without saying that when someone hurts you once and did not change, that's enough.
Tessa is not a good person. Harry is not even close to being decent. Yes I did love this when I was 16 and you should forever hold that against me.
The thing about fan fiction is that it's completely unoriginal. After is basically fan fiction of fan fiction. 50 Shades meets One Direction meets the movie She's All That. How many series do we need with a brooding male character who is a creepy stalker control freak and a female who is innocent and virginal and wears skirts and cardigans, then falls for said male within only a few pages? It's been done plenty of times before and there's nothing exceptional about this book that makes it stand out from the others like it. Wouldn't recommend.
Que no os asusten el hecho de que sea un libro gordo ni el que esté basado en una fic de One Direction, es un libro genial, que rompe tópicos y se te pasan las páginas volando.
