I enjoyed this one - it's a cozy historical mystery set in Regency era England. It was fun and fit my mood and I will definitely continue the series. That being said, I'm writing this review on December 4th and I can't remember who was murdered. So, the details aren't sticking with me but the feelings are - it was light, easy and fun.
3.5 stars. There were several eye roll moments but the overall mystery plot and main character growth made this a fun read.
Silly, affectionate parody, and sometimes that's all I want. Would be interested in more focusing on the main characters.

This book tried too hard to be funny sometimes, but otherwise, it was a cosy enough mystery. Don't expect any huge plot twists, it's all quite easily decipherable yet also a fun read. I guess it's sort of satire on the Regency era?
If you're one to get irked by the discrepancies of an NA writer writing Regency, perhaps don't read this. It might frustrate you.
Mostly enjoyable, with some fairly large exceptions. As others have noted, an odd and unexpected tale, which left me feeling befuddled at times. I'm not a huge satire fan, so that may have been part of my feeling lost occasionally. There is one giant glaring plot hole that drove me nuts and was never resolved, but overall the twists were fun. I saw the culprit coming a mile away, though not the motive and backstory. All in all, a story characterized by contradictions.
Tries to be too many things at once, and doesn't fully succeed at any of them. A satire of Regency novels needs more subtlety than a mansion named Stabmort and a handsome himbo named Croaksworth. And the weird stuff, like youngest sister Mary being a werewolf, feels like an afterthought that is barely related to the main plot. YMMV if you are tickled by any book with amusing footnotes and gratuitous frogs.

Beatrice Steele is a lady. However, if anyone knew how she spent her free time, her reputation would be ruined.
Beatrice loves murder. Well, not murder, but justice and solving murders. She dreams of being an Inspector like the ones she reads about.
Little does she know, her skills might just be put to the test in real life.
I had a fun time with this one. The characters all have their weird and humorous little quirks.
It's very hard to solve a murder when everyone is guilty of something.
