I got this book given by a colleague. I highly enjoyed the way the author writes. It is perfect for crime/mystery for me.
I later found out it is book 12 from a 20 book series
Gamache receives the gift of an old map found in the bistro walls. He takes it to his new job as Commander of Surete's Academy. He finds himself at the center of a murder investigation of one of its corrupt professors.
This novel tied up some previous loose ends from previous novels. I, as always enjoyed my time reading more of the series.
Great book. Compelling style. Nice cast of characters. The plot, in the end, is a little contrived, but who cares when the writing is so good.
Aspects of this book drove me nuts but the last 30% was a wild ride. So many revelations in this one.
So full of tension! I love that there are parts of Armand's life that we still don't know about. Each novel seems to unfold another part of Inspector (or now, Commander) Gamache.
This is probably the best of all of them. Louise Penny gives me hope for the world when she writes about and emphasises kindness. It is not often one comes across such humane crime fiction. She is a fantastic author.
reading these are so cozy - I feel like I'm going back home and spending time with dear friends.
