לפחות עבורי, קשה למצוא סיפורי מד”ב שמרגישים חדשניים באמת. סיפורים שלא עוסקים בנושאים שנחרשו שוב ושוב ע”י מאות סופרים בעבר.

טד צי'אנג מצליח בכך באופן פנומנלי. כמעט כל הסיפורים מרגישים חדשניים, והחדשות היא מהותית ועמוקה. רעיונות שלא חשבתי עליהם ואפילו לא שמעתי עליהם, ואם הם כן עברו אצלי בראש, לא מפותחים ומפורטים כמו אצלו.

מומלץ בחום לחובבי מד”ב שמרגישים תקועים קצת עם שחזורים חדשים של רעיונות ישנים.

ספר מדהים, שקורע אותי במיוחד בתקופה הזו.

הוא מלא בכל כך הרבה אהבה. אם זו אהבה למקום, לאנשים, לקרקע, ואם זו סתם אהבה רגילה, בין שני אנשים, שברוכין מצליחה להעמיד במשקל שווה למתח והאקשן שמתרחש מסביב.

התחלתי לקרוא אותו בגלל שמאוד אהבתי את “ברד כחול מסטיק”, שהתפרסם בהיה יהיה 2022. והוא לא איכזב.

One of Brandon's best works yet.

The most whimsical of Sanderson's works so far. It feels personal like most others do not, and I like it.

This book is fascinating. Me Guin tried to tackle many different subjects which are not common in science fiction, and does that tremendously well.

This is my first time ever hearing an audio book, which may diminshed my enjoyment. I may return to it again later in life to fix that.

First of all, let me say this: this book is one of the most intense and deep exploration of the human condition, and what it means to be human in general. It does not shy away from triumphs and fails, and I think it generally succeed in being almost universal.

I would have easily given 5+ stars if not for the ending. It was in poor taste, and honestly just badly written. To Me, it feels like the author himself missed the whole theme of the book he himself wrote.

It's sad, but that means I cannot in pure heart give it the 5 stars I want to give so badly.

Maybe next time, John.

This book the a prime example of the power and flexibility of words. A brilliant pick for the romanticists among us.

And yes, I did choose to use fancier words because of this book. You will too.

Surprisingly hopeful.

I dis not expect to read sich a hopeful book. Retrospectivly, I probably should have expected that, since this is April Hill Writing.

This book buffles me. It has 5-star good parts, which it then ignore and skip without finishing, or finishing in bad ways.

Given 4 stars because I want to judge it for its good and not its bad.

Although this book is really physics-inspired (just look at the name), it is not actually intended for physicists, and more for the general public (which is good! Just not expected). Let me explain:

I just finished my B.A. in physics, and although I'm in no means an expert, I do have certain knowledge in the field. This caused an unexpected problem for me.

The physicists in the book (except Ye Wenji maybe) aren't believable. They lack basic knowledge that all physicists have, or understand the situation far slower than expected.

For example, let's look at the 3body game. As a non-expert with limited knowledge, I was able to understand the mechanics of the game within the first chapter of it. For Wang, en expert with years more of experience it took 3 another several chapters.

Of course, this is not a problem for most people (I guess), since most people didn't a whole course named “Chaos Theory” last semester. Therefore of course the reader would have to introduce those concepts at a slower pace.
But it is a problem for the people who did, and so we get to my earlier statement:

This is a great physics-inspired sci fi book for the general public. But if you have physics knowledge, don't expect to be surprised too much.

Read it right after finishing Fitz And Fool, and the contrast is incredible.
This is a great book, but it does not allow itself to ever become really scary.
I never really worried about any of the characters, because Sanderson never let them become hurt of anything. Events that would have scarred people for life are brushed off as no more than inconvenience.
This book is a great example of what makes Sanderson so good: the hard magic system, and his amazing ability to always leave me surprised although I already had all of the knowledge to solve the problem myself.
But it is also an example of his shortcomings. The book is easy and fun and interesting which means that nothing actually has any emotional weight.

It has been a long time since the last I cried for a book.

Such great start for the last section of Fitz's story!
As always, Hobb's writing is spectacular. She took some elements of the Rain Wild Chronicles (2 narrators specificaly) and used them here with great success.
The idea behind the book is brilliant and I'm excited to see where she will take it in the next 2 books.

It's tiresome to read too much of Hobb's books in a row. The books are great, but it's taxing on the reader.
My recommendation: read them over a relatively long period, and maybe consider reading some lighter material in between.

This did not age well. Not a bad book, but it was better if I was a bit more racist and a lot more sexist.

Fantastic ending to a magnificent series!
