Best one yet. Okay this is by FAR my favorite story that Holly has been a part of. I've read the Mr. Mercedes trilogy, The Outsider and If It Bleeds, and everything about this one made me love Holly even more. My favorite storyline thus far. HUGE downfall that ended up kicking my rating down—all the Trump bashing and COVID bullshit. I get what he was trying to do and how he was trying to portray for Holly but I personally feel he let his own beliefs slip through the cracks a little bit and it was just distasteful in my opinion. Had there been less of that, it would have been an easy 5⭐️ for me and probably my favorite book of the year so far. Will still highly recommend.
One of my favs of the year so far! I loved the writing style for the most part. The only issues I had with the book at all were the super long chapters and the time jumps at the end. The end is what I was looking forward to the entire book and I feel like we missed the wedding, pregnancies, birth, the most important parts of the book. I loved the tropes, age gap, touch her and die, etc. Pike is my kinda book boyfriend 🥵
This one was really hard to rate. It started off SO SLOW. I almost DNF'd it a handful of times because I didn't know if it was worth it. It took over 200 pages for it to actually start getting interesting. I also guessed the killer the entire book. I knew who it was. Even with the fake twist I still knew who it was the whole time. The last 100ish pages did keep me glued and I liked that they tried to do a twist within a twist, I would have rated it higher if I didn't know the killer the whole time. But I just can't rate it higher because of how slow the burn was.
I loved this book so so so much. I'm learning it has some of my favorite tropes in contemporary romance! Virgin, best friend's brother, close proximity, baseball, college, jock & nerd, etc. This was just the cutest story and I fell in LOVE with the characters instantly. My only couple slight gripes would be the “3rd act break-up”. And the way the author ended chapters. With the “break-up”, I had to keep telling myself Hallie was immature in the dating aspect and she was a virgin before, therefore why she was being BEYOND stupid. lol literally no reason for her to cry like a 12 year old. Use your words and talk about it like a big girl, I mean c'mon, you're in college but anyway, besides that—I just hated how at the end of a smut chapter the author would leave you hanging with Hallie asking to do something again or Lane having a quirky come back. There were times where I felt she could have lost her virginity sooner but we were left unsure because of how the author chose to end the chapters. Otherwise this book was everything I needed it to be. I am so happy I read this before Catching Feelings comes out because I cannot WAIT for that one 💜
Okay so when I started this the first 15-20% reminded me so much of the blood duet I almost DNF'd it. Lucille seemed to be everything Jane was just in a different timeframe. And for me it felt like I was reading the same book at first. I'm not personally a fan of rereads unless I truly forget the book and it's been years. Something about Dubh's perspective just really made me want to keep reading and I'm SO glad I did because I think this one tops the blood duet for me! I loved their story and I loved the timeframe the story takes place. Wonderful writing, I loved that Lucille was an author as well, just everything about this checked all the boxes for me. And let's not forget how fantastic the smut was 🔥🌶️ Dolores Lane will be an automatic read for me always.
Extremely fast paced. I couldn't put it down. I loved the POV from Hanna's perspective as well as her mother's. It kept it very interesting and unputdownable. I have lots of feelings about this book but don't want to be judged as a mother. Only downside for me was it never gave Hanna's diagnosis and I was craving that by the end. She's obviously a psycho. Unfixable.
Kat did it again!! Wow! Idk what it is it how she does it but her writing style just sucks me in! This book was fantastic! I loved the tropes and I think this may be my new favorite by Kat! The smut—🔥🔥, the story—🔥🔥, the writing style—🔥🔥, everything was 5/5 for me and I seriously can't wait for Emma's story!!
Short story book. I mainly wanted to read this for the 3rd story “If it Bleeds” since it's a spin off from the Mr. Mercedes Trilogy. I figured I'd read it before I read “Holly”. I liked 3/4 of the stories. I saw the movie for “Mr. Harrigan's Phone” so I had expectations for that story. 3⭐️ “The Life of Chuck” was just alright. Not my cup of tea, but it was fine. 2⭐️ “If it Bleeds” was definitely my fav story in the book! I just love Holly's character. 4⭐️ “Rat” was the last story and I overall enjoyed this one as well! 4⭐️ Whole book rounded to 3.75ish stars! I did like it as a whole!
Read the first 100 pages and then put it down due to the holidays. Once I picked it back up like 3 days ago I wasn't able to put it down. I loved the MMC and I loved the relationship that built between the couple. Choosing to read this as a stand-alone and not continue the series because I loved the story but don't care who the next book is about. Nothing against the author or book, just leaving it at this because it was great!
The last 20% of the book was fantastic. I feel the build up all made sense, it was written very well. But when he told Alice he was adopted and how old he was when he was adopted and her reaction, I 1000% knew she was his sister. I didn't know until it was revealed that his mother was who she was. So that was a little unexpected twist. I think this book represents trauma well. Obviously in the most extreme form but I believe these types of scenarios DO happen a lot more often than the world likes to admit. Ray “Rebel” was just a hurt little boy and Claudine was just a traumatized women who hated her younger self for what her trauma did to her. It's all and all so sad. Would highly recommend this one! Now I have to watch “Chains” to see the inspiration.
Started off sooo strong. Slowed down some in the middle (as most of Kings work does for me) then once Holly was introduced into this one I was HOOKED. I love her character and can't wait to read his new novel based on her! It went a way different direction than I was expecting but overall such a great read, I enjoyed throughout!
I read the first chapter before bed yesterday and then tonight at bed I couldn't put it down until I finished it. Very effective extreme horror. Well written. This author has me intrigued and I would love to read more from her! Also, the middle of the book warning threw me off guard but, it was warranted.
5/5⭐️
This book was phenomenal. Literally everything I love in a book: horror, romance, suspense, smut—all nailed perfectly and wrapped up in a little bow.
Book 2 was even better than the first book. 😍😍 can't wait to check out what else this author has to offer!
5 stars rounded down to 4.75 stars because of grammatical errors and typos once more. 🤦🏼♀️
I liked the thought behind this. I see where it was going and what happened, but it just seemed rushed. I think it had SO much potential if it would have been a 200 page book with more backstory and longer time for the group to bond again after 15 years, it would have been better and made more sense. Just seemed odd that everyone acted like it hadn't been 15 years and that they were all just the same as before? Idk. Just seemed weird to me. It had potential. Still got me in the last chapter. I will give it that!
The first 400 pages of the book sucked me in and had me craving what was next. It was so hard to put down. But some of the characters and commentary were odd to me. Maybe I'm reading into it too much but I feel like you could tell a male wrote their perspectives. Also the ending fell flat for me. I feel like I seen it coming a mile away and was just really hoping for something to knock my socks off after the lead up. I was pretty disappointed with the ending but nonetheless the book kept me reeled in for 85% of it. I just thought it would have ended with more of a bang.
I am SO sad it's over. EVERYTHING I wanted from reading the first book was wrapped up wonderfully in book 2. Since book 2 picks up right where book 1 left off there's no build up, you jump right into the good time. I literally couldn't put this down. I can't express my love for these books enough. What a wild ride. Definitely didn't expect the twists and turns in this one. This needs to be a short series on Netflix or a movie, who's with me?
Chloe, not only is your writing brilliant, your mind is magnificent.
Can't wait to read Any and Everything you publish.
ARC READER REVIEWThis book was a super anticipated read for me after BT&WL became one of my top fav books of the year, an easy 5 star. I was lucky enough to receive and ARC of this book for an honest review. Up to the 50% mark I enjoyed this book thoroughly!! The angst, the buildup, the sadness of loss, all of it I was loving. The first spice scene was beyond anticipated and it was a slight letdown for me personally. If I had to read the words “punish” or “worship” one more time in the same scene it was gonna ruin it for me. It was kind of “okay we get the point” move on, and usually any kind of spice I love, it just seemed like she was trying too hard since it took so long to get to the spice in the first place. Then afterwards I just really had a hard time dealing with the FMC-Mare or Goldie as Cade calls her. I don't understand how she couldn't realize this man loved her?? Are you blind? Cade Jennings is the perfect man and she was quite the idiot for awhile. Too self centered and not focused on anyone else. (Just a personal thing—nothing against the book or writing style) Then at about the 70% for a moment I was like “wow if Cade wasn't a hopeless romantic in a romance novel he could easily be a stalker in a thriller 😅 I mean the house, the tattoo, the field of marigolds?!? I mean geez dude good thing she loves you back 😅 but then once the FT smut scene hit, the heart to heart between Cade and his dad, plus the letter from Linda, I was hooked again. The ending was OF COURSE perfect. Although I will admit, when she reached in her purse I thought for SURE a positive pregnancy test was coming out, not the new book 😅 all in all another great read from Kat!! I will continue to read her books and will definitely purchase a copy of rewrite our story for my collection ❤️
Honestly read most of this tonight. Once I picked it back up I had to finish it. I started to realize the stories were about him pretty early on I feel but I had to know where he was going with it. Shyla was awesome. I loved her character. And the way she still felt sorry for him and took care of him at the end after EVERYTHING he did to her blows my mind. The poor girl had been traumatized so young and he just completely stomped on her trauma cause he cared more about his own. Sheesh. Is it sad that I found this book slightly refreshing after reading Dead Inside? 😅😅😂
