This was the book I never knew I needed in my life. After reading “Escaping from Houdini” my heart was broken and I was left with such an empty feeling. But then I found out about this novella and I knew I had to read it and I am so glad I did.
This is absolutely great. It's a short novella from Thomas Cresswell's point of view (that's enough to make you want to read it!) focusing on the events at the end of the third book of the series, after Audrey Rose is hurt by the killer.
These short, but amazing pages made me laugh so hard that tears were pouring down my face and they made me so happy that I forgot all the hurt that the previous book caused me. I absolutely loved it and I am so glad that Thomas and Audrey Rose are all right and that their relationship wasn't destroyed because of Mephistopheles.
Oh wow, this book was extremely good! I wasn't expecting anything less from the amazing Kerri Maniscalco, but this book truly exceeded my expectations. I knew I was going to like it, but I ended up absolutely LOVING it!
This book is full of magic, a perfect witchy read. It is both light and darkness, love and hate. Is it an enemies-to-lovers book? Maybe, we don't know it yet, but I really hope we will find out in the next one. This book left be broken and SCREAMING because of that ending - no spoilers, don't worry! Just know that you've been warned: you're going to read a hell of a cliff-hanger. And it's going to break your heart.
Of course I fell in love with Emilia and her personality, she is such an amazing character. Oh, and let's not forget ALL THE FOOD mentioned in this book, all the Italian cuisine was mouth-watering and I felt like I was there, at the Sea & Vine, smelling all that great food. Kerri is incredible with her descriptions and I loved reading them, they really made me feel like I was a part of this story. And how I wish I was, especially when Wrath appeared. I mean... dark, moody, dangerous DEMON FROM HELL that's also... handsome as hell? YES, GIVE HIM TO ME! I need more of him, especially after seeing that author letter included in the October Fairyloot box... if you know, you know.
All in all, this book is a freaking gem and I suggest you go read is ASAP if you like books with a great magic system, handsome demons and amazing witches. You're in for an awesome ride!
Beautiful, beautiful book. Laini Taylor has created such a magical and amazing world, I loved everything about it. The characters developed in such a gorgeous way, I liked reading about them and their lives.
I couldn't choose between this book and Strange the Dreamer, they were both really good and very nice and easy reads.
I don't have much to say about this book, just: READ IT, it's really good.
And I have some amazing quotes from this one that I wanted to share with you:
“You don't know yet what you're capable of, but I'm willing to bet it's extraordinary.”
“Once upon a time, there was a silence that dreamed of becoming a song, and then I found you, and now everything is music.”
“Wishes don't just come true. They're only the target you paint around what you want. You still have to hit the bull's-eye yourself.”
“You learn what you want when you think you can't have it.”
4.5 stars. I fel kinda disappointed with the ending and I wanted more from the books.
*Re-read: 5 stars
First read: 4 stars
I LOVE Thomas and Audrey Rose. I finally got to meet these two amazing characters and I am so glad I chose to read this book.
In 1880's London, Audrey Rose is a seventeen year old girl who isn't interested in the newest gossip, the latest trends in fashion or finding the perfect man for marriage. She is interested in science and she loves working on corpses and finding their true story. She meets Thomas Cresswell while she works for her uncle and they become something close to friends, if we look past their never ending teasing of each other. Thomas is a very intelligent boy, but Audrey Rose is as good as him. They play mind games together, trying to find the killer that terrorizes the town.
Audrey Rose is such an inspiring and great character. She doesn't care what other people think of her, because in those times it was very unusual and often considered “indecent” for a woman to be interested by science. But she does not care. And she follows her dream, becoming the savior of the city, alongside Thomas Cresswell, because together they solve de mystery of the awful murders that are taking place in their town.
I liked how the book was written, even if at some point it got really annoying for me because I figured out who the killer was and I wanted to slap both Audrey and Thomas realizing it earlier. The ending got me hooked and I can't wait to dive into the next book in the series!
OOOOKAY, I was not expecting this.
I feel like I've wanted to read this book since forever. I always kept saying that I was going to read it and when I finally decided to order it, my order got lost on the way somehow. A couple of months after that, I decided to give it another go. And here I am, finishing the first book. And I really loved it!
This book started out really good, but then it got a bit too slow for my liking and I was starting to feel bored, but then things started picking up again and then it turned into an emotional rollercoaster. I really enjoyed the story and the characters, even though I don't feel like I know them that well, but there are 2 more books left so I'm not going to complain about that.
I loved this book. In my opinion, it was the best from the whole series. Finally Cress stopped being annoying and she was actually badass in this one, I liked her a lot.
Winter is such a dear character, I like her and I felt so sorry for her because of her sickness, but thinking of WHY that sickness was there made me love her so so much and I'm happy that she has Jacin to take care of her
Wow, this book was truly unique! I've never read anything like this before, where Fae aren't using only magic, but they also have really smart and interesting mechanisms. They don't trick humans only by using magic, but by using something called “mirrorcraft”, which was really awesome to read about. These Fae are nothing like I've seen before, but one thing is sure: they are vicious.
This is an action-packed book, jumping from one even to the other in such a great way that you have no idea when the story ends (or that's what happened to me). I was so caught up in everything that was happening, I felt like I was there with the unusual crew. Because that's what this book is about: a quest that starts thanks to a thief called Rags - and I really do think that this name suits him. Along the way, he finds himself becoming an incredible person, something he never thought he would be. Thinking that we is “just a thief, but a good one”, Rags becomes so much more than that.
I absolutely loved seeing this development through the book, how he tried to deny his feelings and how it was so hard for him to acknowledge the fact that he wasn't such a bad person after all.
The people he befriends are all special in their own way and I loved that, as side characters they are great and I can't wait to read more about them.
This book gave me major Six of Crows & Crooked Kingdom vibes, thanks to the unusual joining of very different people, that start working together for a common reason. I would definitely recommend this if you've read the duology and liked it, I'm sure you're going to like this book; especially since it has Fae in it and a little bit of gay slow-burn romance.
Wow. One of the best crime books I've ever read. Definitely wasn't expecting that ending. The whole story is so complex and I love how everything made sense in the end. This book is definitely perfect for the spooky season and it will keep you on the edge of your seat.
I didn't love the book, but I really enjoyed it. I couldn't connect with Sheetal, but I liked her character.
The plot was really interesting and I liked the twist at the end, I didn't expect that to happen.
Loved the Stardust by Neil Gaiman vibes.
I absolutely loved this book! It was really good and I liked it more than the first one. It was good to rediscover this world and to see what Lou and Reid are up to.
The ending was cruel and unexpected, ugH!
All I have to say is: WHAT AN AMAAAAAZING BOOK!!!!
I knew I was going to love it and I wasn't wrong. Enemies to lovers, office romance, gorgeous main characters? Give it all to me.
I am sooo disappointed, I really hoped that she'd marry Kile, it would've been so cute and perfect.
Daamn, this book was so emotional, the end made me cry like a little child. I'm so happy! Can't wait to see what will happen next.
I'm really starting not to like Aspen anymore, because he's confusing America and I'd love to see her with Maxon. Hope she'll be the princess.
I loved this book even more the second time I read it. I loved getting to know Celaena all over again, watching her grow and become better. I cried and I laughed with her, fell in love with Dorian, the blue-eyed Crown Prince, all over again.
Celaena is an assassin. The best one in Adarlan. She's also known as “Adarlan's Assassin”. Due to some unknown circumstances, she was captured and found herself in Endovier, a salt mine for slaves. Beaten, whipped and humiliated, Celaena struggles to survive in the awful prison. She is such a strong character and she is stubborn and selfish sometimes, she is smug and arrogant and I can see why some people don't like her. I couldn't like her at times, but because I now know her whole story, I can't help but love her.
I am so excited to read the other books for the second time and see if my opinions on them change.
I liked it, but it was too similar to the first book. It's basically the same plot with different main characters.
Following the story of Percy Jackson, a half-blood that always gets into trouble, “The Sea of Monsters” amazed me. Okay, it might be a book destined for middle grade and I might be 22 soon, but this book touched my heart.
I fell in love with Annabeth in this book, she is becoming such a strong and beautiful young woman and I cannot wait to follow her journey through this series.
Percy is his usual self, really funny and brave. I love his sarcastic comments and his banter, he is such a nice character.
And let's talk about Tyson. Tyson is THE MOST PRECIOUS CHARACTER IN THIS BOOK. He must be protected at all costs. I didn't like him at first, but of course I ended up loving him. Such a beautiful character!
And I love how Rick Riordan has included different greek myths in this book, like the story of Circe, the big bad Cyclops Polyphemus; I felt like going back to my childhood and reading these myths for the first time, which I absolutely loved. I can't wait to dive into the next book, because this one has a huge cliffhanger at the end!!
I loved this book and I think it's Elena's best one so far. Adalyn and Cameron are my favorite characters written by her and the story is the best!
