I found the author's style of writing very hard to read and only got a couple pages into the book before I gave up and put it down. never finished it.

I guess I prefer more mystery to romance. The book was good, I just wished there was more focus on the mystery.

I'm a fan of Mary Burton's books and this one did not disappoint. I never saw the twist at the end coming!

I enjoyed this cozy baking mystery. I drooled my way thru the book, enjoying the baking and recipes more than the actual mystery. Love the recipes included at the end!

Fantastic Fantasy. I thought the focus was going to be on Tyen and then it all of sudden switched to another character and then back and forth between the two. A lot of storylines didn't finish and it's obviously setting up for the next book. Great read!

I received an advanced copy from Netgalley to read and review.

After a few false starts, I finally got into this story. The storyline bounce back and forth between current day and the past and was sometimes hard to keep straight. But once it picked up, I really enjoyed the mystery.

Wow!! What a twisted, gory read. The serial killer's reason for killing was new one for me. This book was truly gory, with all the deaths written in great detail. The characters were well written and I couldn't put this one down!

this book really wasn't what I was expecting and it was not as good as her other books.

July 31, 2009

very strange read. took a while to get going and even then it was confusing.

September 15, 2013

collection of short stories set in Valdemar. wish all of them had been written by lackey, but there are some good ones by the other authors too.

December 10, 2009

One of the best parts of the book were the flashbacks to the earlier times. The 2nd best part was the relationship between Julia and Henry.

January 1, 2008

took me a while to realize that this book is actually a prequel to the series. the main character's name sounded familiar but it didn't hit me til the final pages of the book.

I enjoyed this book. The interplay between the historical figures was interesting. The storyline was interesting and took a few turns that I did not anticipate. really enjoyed this book. I will have to check out the 1st book in the series.

This was a light hearted fun read. I enjoyed the cast of characters and the storyline. Now I'm going to have to go back and read the 2 books in the series!

I've not read any of the other books in this series, but really enjoyed this one. Especially the nice little twist at the end!

I received this book thru a First Reads Giveaway. It was slow to start and full of descriptions of everything. It finally picked up pace and finishted, although I'm not sure all the questions were answered. I loved all the food references and found it to be a pleasant cozy mystery to read.

October 31, 2014

not as good as her previous books. the earlier books in the series were much better.

May 9, 2012

the series is starting to go downhill.

entertaining light read

December 4, 2009

I'm not normally a fan of anthologies, but this one was really good. I think what helped was that most of the stories were only 4-5 pages long. quick and to the point. entertaining and light reading before bed.

June 28, 2012

weird mystery that seemed to leave a lot left unanswered.

June 21, 2009

the back and forth between past and present was very confusing, but worked itself out in the end.
