I received a free copy of this book as part of the Novel Suspects Insider's Club. This is the second book in the Anna and Fin series. And also the second book by Denise Mina that I read.
Before I received this book I didn't know anything about the author or series. So I am happy that I received this book because I really like the characters in these books. I also like the fact that the book that we are reading is actually the book that Anna writes after everything happens. I also like the chapters that are actual episodes of their podcast.
I liked this book, even though it's not really the type of books I usually read. I will definitely read the next book in the series to decide if I want to continue on or not.
I have to say I am liking more and more the books after Maxine Paetro came into the picture. This one, the 6th in the series, was very interesting with A LOT happening. This one also had a lot more interaction between the members of the Women's Murder Club, which was something that I missed in the last two books. Because that's my favorite part of these series, Lindsay, Claire, Cindy and now Yuki, sitting together with a round of margaritas, talking about a case, each one bringing her expertise.
This book was fun. Maddie Springer never disappoints. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.
I am a fan of Agatha Christie's books, which I have been reading since I was a teenager (a lot of years ago). But if I have to choose a favorite, it has to be A Murder Is Announced. I read this book for the first time when I was about fourteen. It was actually the first Agatha Christie book that I read and the one and made me become a fan. Back then, I read a translation into Spanish, Se anuncia un asesinato. It was not until this year that I read the book in the original English, and I have to say that I liked it even more.
This is exactly the type of Nora Roberts books that I love. There's magic and the battle between good and evil. There is a circle of family and friends and lovers. I loved the characters. Particularly Connor and Fin. I can't wait for their stories.
Yes, this series reminds me of other Nora Roberts trilogies (Circle trilogy, Sign of Seven trilogy) but that doesn't take anything away from the story.
Thank you to Simon & Schuster for the free copy for review.
The first word that comes to mind when I think about this book is: different.
This book is not what I expected at all. And I say that in the best posible way.
Here we have a woman with a terrible disease. A disease that took her from her home at the age of nine and made her travel the world for a lifetime without stopping for more than a couple of days at a time. It was a disease that took everything from her, but also gave her so much.
Throughout this book the reader is able to see the world through Aubry's eyes, but we also get to feel her anger and her frustration at having no power over this disease. And I have to say, as a person living with a chronic illness, that hit very hard.
I loved the libraries. These magical places where Aubry was able to rest and think and gain new perspective. Only a librarian would be able to write this book. And I love it!
This time James Patterson teamed up with Maxine Paetro. And I have to say that I really liked this one. I would like to have had more interaction with the Cindy and Claire (you know, the Women's Murder Club). I was also expecting a bit more mourning Jill. But all and all, I liked the book.
I have to say this is the book I liked the least in the series. I think what I most enjoyed was the fact that the audiobook narration was done by Patrick Stewart.
FAB is a very entertaining read and the twist at the end made my day. I love when a book manages to surprise me. The whole world has speculated about “what if” John Lennon had not been killed. Everyone talks about his potential, about the fact that he was a musical genius, about his charisma, and, of course, about a possibility of a Beatles reunion. But I don't think anyone has speculated in the opposite direction; the possibility of a John Lennon who is despicable and hungry for power. This book paints a very interesting picture of what could have been the life of the legend that is John Lennon.
I have to say I liked this one better than the first one. It was mostly because I like Evan a lot. I also wanted to like Mary Jo, but I found her so frustrating and so willing to give up that I really couldn't like her. But yes, it was an entertaining read so I guess it served its purpose.
This is my favorite book of the series because this is truly an “enemies to lovers” story, which is one of my favorite tropes in romance books.
I really enjoyed this book, mostly because I like the female characters very much.
However, I can't help to see a pattern. This second book follows pretty much the same formula as the first book.
Or is it just me?
I truly hope it is just me and that the next book in the series can take me by surprise because I honestly want to keep reading this series. But I won't be able to do it if all the outcomes are going to be so predictable.
With some trepidation, she reached for the third book...
This one was very interesting. I have to say I am enjoying these books co-authored by Maxine Paetro. Keep them coming!
Interesting side story. Loved the paranormal element. I am curious if we get to see Kya again later on the series. I hope we do.
I really love the fact that both stories in this series don't happen one after the other, but instead they overlap and we get to see what happens from different points of view. There are also situations that we didn't completely understand in book one because we didn't have all the information. Of course, at that time we didn't know that we were missing something. It's only when we read the second book that we finally get the whole picture.

This is the second book in the Happy Doll series. And also the second book by Jonathan Ames that I read.
I have to confess that before I received this book I didn't know anything about the author or series. And, even though this type of books (noir and unnecessarily violent) is not my thing, there are some things that I definitely enjoyed. In general, I liked the Happy Doll character (although I disagree with most of his decisions) and I like that we really got to know him and his back story throughout the first two books of the series.
In The Wheel of Doll, Happy is hired to find Ines, a woman from his past and his first love. He was hired by her daughter, but Happy soon realizes that nothing is what it seems, and in finding Ines, he was doing the opposite of saving her.
I received a finished copy of this book to review as part of the Novel Suspects Insiders Club.
The book is about PI Philip Marlowe, the character originally created by Raymond Chandler in his series published from late 1930s to early 1950s. Denise Mina has taken this character and created her own sequel to the series.
In this book, Marlowe is hired by multimillionaire Chadwick Montgomery to find his missing daughter. Although Chrissie haven't really “disappeared”, she just walked out. In addition to Marlowe, Chadwick Montgomery has also hired Anne Riordan (who used to be Marlowe's associate, but now they are rivals). The whole thing gets very complicated when a body is found at a cheap hotel and Chrissie happens to be the only witness.
I am going to be honest with you, I am a fan of Denise Mina's books. This is the reason I requested this book from the Summer Spotlight Titles. But this is not my type of books. Probably didn't help that I've not read the original series. And I am not going to. I didn't like the characters and I was not invested in their story.
This is the first book I read by Debbie Macomber and I have to say I was expecting more. It was okay, but the development of the story felt rushed and I was not able to develop an emotional connection with the characters. I am still going to read the second book in the series because I think Evan will be a lot more interesting than Damian as a character. I hope I'm right.
I really enjoyed the story and Rob's journey. He feels like a real person, which is probably because he was inspired by a real person. Rob is strong and kind, and, by the end of the book he is full of conflicting feelings regarding his loyalty and his duty. I can't wait to read the next book and find out where his journey takes him.
This is the cutest and funniest book I have read this year. And I so needed it right now.
I am in love with the Messina family. This is the best fictional family EVER!!
I am so happy I read this book. I read the first book in the series years ago but didn't find out this was a series until recently. When I read the second book, while I truly liked Harry and Olivia, I kept wishing Sebastian would get his own book because I was in love with this character. Imagine my surprise and pleasure when the third book in the series turned out to be Sebastian's story. This is definitely my favorite book of the series.

The first thing I'm going to say is that I wanted to love this book. Just reading the blurb I thought it had everything that I like. Complicated family history (✔️) Morally gray, kick-ass women (✔️) Secrets (✔️) Twins! (✔️✔️) But sadly, the book was just okay.
I was prepared to not like Anabel. But the fact is that I didn't like anybody in this book. I didn't like Harry. I didn't like Lila. I particularly didn't like Jane. And it was hard for me to care about any of them.
I didn't hate the book, but I didn't love it. And I will definitely not continue with this series.
