This was a great read about a decent into mania and the events that lead up to it. Haunted or? I dunno. But this was an excellent book.
Humanity at it's truest, this character-driven narrative is heart-wrenching. With characters of all ages, normal people, average people, people trying their damnedest just to be better versions of themselves. Then pair that with a parent's worst fears and you have the Whisper Man. A compulsive read that grabs from page one, evokes your heart with love and fear and wraps the ending up with promise and retribution.
Ok, so here it is. I loved this book. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea. I loved the writing style and loved the characters (some I loved to hate), but mostly I loved the two linear timelines and how they unraveled. It wasn't as riveting or depressing as I thought it would be. But! It was exactly the book I needed to start this new year.
What a banging series! I'm not the biggest fan of post-apocalyptic as a genre in general but when my gf Jen said I had to read it, that it was awesome - I couldn't say no - and I couldn't agree more. Paced with twists and upheaval, the troops inside Project Nemesis never get a chance to breathe! Survival is their only goal and they would do almost anything to achieve it. Such a well put together story that challenges the imagination and plays with artificial intelligence and consciousness in ways I never expected. Don't pick it up unless your buckled in for all three books - this is your warning. 😉👍
An idea conjured by Shervin Hess of Oregon Zoo, and with the talents of others in the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, this super cute book, full of bright and striking photos and punny tags for each #rateaspecies animal, is an excellent addition to any library.
I really enjoyed sharing it with my kids who are 9 and 11. It is hard to pick a favorite but if I had to.... it would be the Giant Pacific Octopus on pg 11 - it's rating reads: “OCTOMAZING - This waterproof model expands to cover large spaces; customizable coloring blends easily with any decor. Eight arms equipped with suction cups secure to any surface. Bonus: super-collapsible for easy storage.” Just picture it. I laughed until I snorted!
I went into this read, expecting repetitive ratings, honestly who could rate these super cute animals less than 5 stars? I was pleasantly surprised by the range in ratings but was in that same note frustrated by the repetitive nature of it. This isn't the kind of book I would recommend to sit straight through and read, it's one to be enjoyed over time, something to pick up for a chuckle, and return to over and over again.
E-copy received for an honest review from @NetGalley.
This book pulls at the heartstrings, but at the same moment is uplifting. The things these courageous teens were and will be able to accomplish is amazing!
WoW! What a woman!
When I saw this book on @NetGalley after recently seeing Mrs. Pelosi on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, at this time, they were beginning impeachment proceedings on Pres. Trump and I found myself impressed by her, she would not be bated, and she conducted herself with poise. Both rare in this day and age.
“Pelosi's style was always poised, consistent, slow to speak, and quick to listen. Confidently in control and yet demanding in her expectations.”
I will not pretend to be up on politics; with conditions such as mine, I tend to avoid media and other triggers that tend to send me ‘down the rabbit hole.' While reading, I found myself enjoying the frankness and feeling of camaraderie the authors were able to exhibit. With their constant references to ‘sis' and ‘Queen,' it was easy to feel like you were a part of this voyage.
“...as a Queen of the Resistance, she is courageous in her endeavor to pull in light and hope, and set America back on a moral course.”
My only hang-up with this read was how towards the end when referencing the POTUS; there was a bit of smack talk. Even though throughout there was a tone of bringing about the end to the patriarchy, these last pages or so, there did seem a bit excessive.
Finally, I'd like to thank @NetGalley for this beautiful read that they provided in exchange for an honest review. LMK any questions, I enjoyed this and thought you would too.
Has a great message, and is a wonderful aid if you are looking to undertake your own ‘thank-you project'.
Still amazing. The scenes with the teachers in this book just add to the overall feel. Adults can be good humans too! And Charlie sticking up for himself, and Nick's attentiveness, and Elle and Tao....
Anne McOmber is special, she has lived life in a way that few of us have. It didn't always start that way, but hindsight for her is a gift worth treasuring. Following her story which in itself is an invitation, you steadily progress through seven stories of struggle, initially from the day to day and progressively into harder challenges. She shares with us her grace and invites us to live in today, mindfully, aware of the gifts life gives us. I highly recommend her book, and will gladly be looking for more of her books.
What a welcoming book. I absolutely adored this read. The Biblical excerpts combined with their personal stories and suggested prayers made for me an original take on the daily devotional. Some of us are just finding ourselves and defining our relationships with God. The ladies that put this devotional together did an excellent job of bringing daily prayer to this amateur, for that I'm grateful.
Thank you @NetGalley for the ARC of How God Grows a Woman of Prayer. This was my honest review.
Feast of Sapphires is a poetry collection intended (IMO) to be read aloud, whether spoken with fervency into a microphone or in reverence in your solitude, just spoken. Nagin's collections take everyday machinations to another level, a contradiction onto themselves they come across at times both pious and jubilant. Poems like ‘Hit By A Car' are visceral, while others like'A Stomach Full Of Acid' are a clear remembrance of life's turmoils - both relatable and hard to digest. Overall I would highly suggest snatching up this one if you adore poetry like I do you're sure to walk away with a sense of appreciation.
WYSIWYG
No surprises here just straight up naughtiness. If that's what you are in to than download this lil pleasure seeker.
This book didn't really jive with me. I didn't care for the insta-love relationship between Delilah and Oliver, or the back and forth point-of-views, or the reality vs fantasy (the real person living in fantasy and the fantasy person wanting reality), but mostly the ending, someone having to give up there life for another, it was all a bit much. But if you read the synopsis for this book you'll see that's exactly what it's about soo.. maybe it's for you.
What I did like:
*Characters striving to be more than they are
*Princess saves the prince, or did she
*Self absorbed characters broadening their horizons
*Everyone Deserves A Happily Ever After
I have some thoughts on this book, mostly positive, so let's go. I feel the author had a particular point of view, meaning that I think the author wrote this book for a specific audience. It was a good point of view, and that audience will appreciate this one, I am sure. Unfortunately, I was not this audience.
I also feel that the writing style, layout, character development, etc were all done particularly well. The story itself showed significant growth with character development, in both major and minor characters. Where it fell short for me was 1.) likeability with the main character, often she came across as whiney and pretentious, and that didn't fly with me; neither did the fact that the story started on a sad note with a breakup after a pretty serious relationship. 2) the two adult role-models for these young girls, where often I felt that they were gregarious, sincere, and essential to the story, I also had a hard time with their use of the word ‘dyke' expressly when they referred to the high school-aged girl as ‘baby dykes.' This term, in general, just holds very negative connotations for me. Although I think this has more to do with me being me than with the author's decision to use this terminology in her story. I have issues with teens addressing their sexuality so freely (and by openly, I mean wearing it on their sleeve, personal is personal, you know, and sexuality is your particular business.). After all, I do feel she wrote something that addresses a relationship type that should be written more freely about.
I do adore these types of stories, stories with real growth and lessons, with characters you can cheer for and where I do feel that I was not the audience for this one, I would certainly recommend it to any teen searching for a heartwarming story about a girl struggling through some of life's hardest curveballs, ie., relationships, societal pressures, college acceptance, and the like. If you fall into that category, I hope you'll give this book a shot.
A beautiful book for beginner embroiderers. Easily transferable designs and even easier to understand instructions.
This book had me in its tightening grip for dang near the whole ride. But dammit he lost me in those last 5 pages!! The Andromeda Evolution had best have some dang answers, and frankly I have this fear that Andromeda Evolution is going to be lacking in all the things I loved about Strain, mainly the science. So damn, yes I feel gypped by the impromptu ending, but damn I also loved every other page...
