This book definitely had potential. The storyline was interesting. I enjoy books with unreliable narrators. This one kept the “ what's going on” storyline too repetitive. It got annoying. The end reveal was a little too rushed and not enough of the questions were answered. Or they were answered and just too rushed. I believe if this book had been longer and the story of the dad, her little sister, and where she truly was, was more explained, it could have been brilliant. Like what was the reason behind the “dome town” and was the rest of the earth gone, or did her dad put her there for another reason? And I still don't understand what she meant by she killed the others and the whole helicopter trip. Just some parts were confusing.
I don't even know how to express my awe.
This novella touched deep spots in my soul that needed a strong embrace. It came at a time when it was much needed in my life, on a personal level. For anyone who has ever dealt with addiction, the pains of withdrawal, and just wanting to do the right thing, but not wanting it to hurt in the meantime. I don't know if the author meant to save lives when he wrote this, but as a witness to this amazing feat, he has done so. Absolutely brilliant.
I have read Malerman's other novels and the only one I cared for was Bird Box. It was excellent. I didn't finish his last one. These short stories were mediocre. More like they were written for middle -grade children. Just not close to the writing he did with Bird Box. I truly hope that he gets better. The man has potential, we have seen it. So far, for me at least, he's been a one hit wonder
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC of this book. Another killer story from Renee Miller. I love her writing style. She has a unique imagination and always comes up with some unusual stories. This one follows the succubus myth. A great read, good pacing for a shorter novel. Enjoyed the ending as well. Love those non- happy, happy endings
Oh wow. This book really kept me up... Turning pages way past the witching hour. Eddie is a brilliant writer. This is the third book I have read by him and my favorite so far. The only problem that I found is that now I want more? Please Mr.Generous, do you name proud and be generous with your writing. Great book. Highly recommend.
I just recently discovered Joy Williams. I started with her short story collections, and fell in absolute awe. No one can write like this lady. No one. She writes characters like nobodies business.
This story follows a couple who literally grew up together, and how they are now falling apart...or are they? Along the way( of their breaking into people's homes to just “live” and chill) they meet an assortment of motley people. Such interesting and memorable characters.
I have now bought every Williams book I can find. Two collectors editions!
Please give this author a read. You won't be let down.
So glad that I found this author. I have read a lot of the books Cowboy Jamboree have put out, and Steve is one of my favorite authors from them. His stories are excellent. Just wish the book had been longer!
Steve, if you read this by chance...please keep up the great work! Look forward to your next book.
I love Southard's writing and this is another fabulous tale by Wesley. He keeps coming up with brilliant takes on things we struggle with in this life. In this case, domestic abuse and the “monster” it truly is.
I look forward to anything he writes. From the first time I read a story by him, I knew he would go far. Horror is a hard genre to write. Especially if you want to write something with meaning and not just a gore fest. Wesley actually grasps that and exceeds expectations.
Gritty gritty bang bang
Wow. A gritty, dark noir that kept me turning the page. Oh how I know wished it was longer. Touched on some very tough subjects, but if anyone can do that tastefully, it's Lorn. I have followed him for years with his writing and his book reviews. He is one of the book reviewers I actually pay attention to and trust. Hate to hear of him leaving the horror genre but look forward to anything he writes. Love ya E.
Absolutely brilliant story so far. Hope we don't have to wait long for the second half. This was a heartbreaking tale to read, but so needed. The male species of the world don't have enough survival tales out there. Many triggers in this book for some, so that needs to be noted. This author will definitely go far.
