Celá kniha je jako sbírka facebokovych statusů člověka, který má velmi specifický humor a nekonvenční pohled na svět. Pokud dokážete svět brát s nadhledem, budete se jako já smát nahlas skoro u každého odstavce.
I found this book lying on the street in Berlin. It has a foreword by Albert Hoffman and it includes a recipe for a love potion made of datura and magic mushrooms. If you need to gain favour of someone, look no further.
Tohle je něco z ranku “nevím, co si o tom myslet”. Severní Čechy, socík, léčebna? Nějak mi chybí kontext. V tom proudu myšlenek se ale příjemně plave.
This is probably the most boring book I've read this year so far. Don't get me wrong; it's GOOD, there are pieces of gold hidden in it. My recommendation is to do a good research on Greek mythology before you dip in, and of course since the topic revolves around Argonauts read that as well.
Poetický vesmír Judith Hermann. Děj v náznacích, v popisech počasí, zvuků a vůní okolo Alice. Žádná struktura, mikropříběhy bez začátku a konce. Něco tam je, ale zároveň něco chybí.
Kdyby to nebylo o smrti, tak se asi nudím.
This is definitely a fine piece of an occult literature, and a dense one. No hand holding there when Artaud is referencing ancient religions, alchemy or everyday madness of the pre-biblical societies. Nevertheless, it's very readable and even without knowledge of the more obscure references in the book it can be very enjoyable for reader who dares to meet insanity leaking from every page face to face.

Jako... farářka budí pozornost a umí psát, to se musí nechat. Formou je to takový blogísek s opakujícími se tématy: jídlo, modlitba, víno, papež František, rum, ekumena, církevní svátky.
Pro křesťany a studované teology asi dost ploché, pro bezvěrce možná chybí víc vysvětlování tzv. “pro blbé”. Kdo je někde mezi, možná se i něco s pomocí lehkého dohledávání ve wikipedii dozví.
Přečteno za dva večery, pokřtít se asi stejně nenechám. Extra hvězda za styl a vtipnost, snad se Martina Viktorie ještě trochu vypíše a pustí do složitějších témat.
Takže na začátek poznámka k překladu: “Krabi” jsou pravděpodobně krevety (Krabben). Taky už jsem se jednou spletl.
Ale dál k věci, Judith Hermann ukazuje, že umí. Celé je to poetické, voní to solí, kejdou a pivem, šuká se jen decentně, a příběh plyne pomalu jako letní dny u Nordsee. Přeci jen, kdo by se nechtěl někdy odstěhovat na nejnudnější místo světa, v noci poslouchat bučení krav a hučení větru, koupat se ve studeném moři a přemýšlet o (ne)smyslu života. A o tom přesně Daheim je.
Compared to previous two books this one is really dull. If you came for Magick, you can as well ignore this one.
This turned out being much better than I expected. Well written, clever and funny! Finished this in two goes.
No need to explain the narrative here - if you came here you know what to expect: whipping, furs, flame-haired voluptuous beauty and transgression of rigid social norms of 19th century, of course available to privileged and wealthy middle clas s only.

Sbírka šesti punkových povídek a socialistický realismus z dnešního Srbska. Trochu jako surreálné grotesky Laca Repáně říznuté existenciální hrůzou a beznadějí, šibeničním balkánským humorem a magickým realismem. Drogy, sex, hovna, spousta chlastu a každý člověk je nějakým způsobem magor a dějí se divné věci.
První povídka je o chlápkovi, který se tak ožral, že mu zmizela ruka. V druhé povídce cestuje hrdinka na stihomamu městem, aby si koupila hero. Třetí kus je o slušném muži, který se potřebuje zbavit mrtvoly. A tak dál. Dávám na čestnou poličku.
Děs a bída. Možná o kousek lepší, než první díl, ale přetrpěl jsem to jen díky formátu audioknihy.
Celý děj by se dal shrnout do rozhovoru dvou kluků ze školky:
A: Já mám lejzrovou odstřelovací pušku!!!
B: A já mám štíty proti lejzrový odstřelovací pušce!!! A atomovou bazuku!!!!
A: A já mám bunkr proti atomový bazuce!!!§ A plazmový dělo!!!

Kniha plná až moc krátkých povídek. Každá z nich je jako být svědkem setkání lidí, které neznáte, ale můžete si o nich spoustu věcí domýšlet.
Druhou polovinu knihy už jsem jen znuděně proletěl.
I love this book. I guess most people will come to it expecting the horned one, smell of sulphur and obscenities - and I am no exception. What you get instead is, among else, a historical and political analysis of relevant parts of the Bible and other related texts.
Compared to the other Peter's books this one is much more academic, and you better be prepared to do some research as you read, as it is well worth learning more about early Judaism, Christianity and other, almost forgltten religions.
I am definitely preordering the second book, Lucifer: praxis, that should come out in 4q 2024
Well this form of comics is something I can accept. Everything is well researched, chapter on London's psychogeography is superb, appendix that explains the missing or invented parts adds another layer of understanding of the story.
Jako celek je kniha děsivě nudná; každou chvíli jsem čekal, jakou fantasmagorii autor vymyslí, aby děj posunul dal.
Pro pozorného čtenáře se ovšem pár perel najde : postava bývalého policajta Da Sh by vydala na vlastní (a mnohem zábavnější) knihu; komentář k čínské kulturní revoluci je schovaný tak trochu mezi řádky a scéna kdy bývalé rudé gardistky reflektují svou kariéru je za mne asi nejvydarenější pasáž knihy ; a nakonec úvahy o lidstvu a jeho místě ve vesmíru nejdou sice nějak do hloubky, ale jsou alespoň autentické...
...což se ale nedá říct o zbytku, který se snaží na učivu prvního ročníku technické vysoké školy vystavět jakýsi příběh. Nerda v pubertálním věku to asi bavit bude, někdo pro koho budou vědecké koncepty diskutované v knize úplná novinka a bude se dovzdělávat na wikipedii možná taky. Jinak bohužel, je plno lepších sci-fi a klasiky jako Duna nebo Nadace jsou ve srovnání s tímhle pořád úplně jiná liga.
Je to vtipný, dal jsem to na jeden zátah, hlavní postava mi mluví z duše. Jen kdyby se autor nesnažil vyrobit příběh a udělal to víc PoMo, mohla se tahle kniha stát manifestem všech anti-automobilistů.
Good book to accompany Crowley's “short essay” aka The Book of Thoth. Grab a copy of TBoT as well. On its own LMD book feels too condensed. One of the biggest flaws here are the card descriptions - this section feels like it was written in a rush and could use more care.
Thoth tarot draws on astrology and kabbalah, these are two pillars the whole thing stands on. I have a very limited knowledge of the former and sentences like “Jupiter in Gemini exalted” made me feel like I was jumping on one leg while trying to understand quantum physics lecture. Get a 101 in both even if you are going to dabble here.
The book also contains a short intro into philosophy & concepts of Thelema and DuQuette (as usual) does a GREAT job explaining it in a sober, down-to-earth manner. I can definitely recommend this to people new to the subject.
Is this a good book about Magic? Absolutely. Is it a great book? Well... it's better than 90% of the books you can find on the “esoteric & occult” bookshelf of your bookshop, unfortunately it is quite shallow in some parts, but if you're new to the subject, or just want to know more about what the hell old madman Moore is ranting about when he starts talking about Magic, give it a try.
The quality of each section varies:
There are comic one-pagers on “The Great Enchanters” that are a funny introduction to the history of Western magic. I applaud the inclusion of Moore's old friend Iain Sinclair. Unfortunately, many modern or contemporary magicians are missing, but this is understandable given the format and limited space.
The life of Alexander and his puppet snake Glycon is hilarious and very important to Moore's magical life and work.
“Things to do on a rainy day” is basically a low-key introduction to the tools one can use should they find the courage to explore the other worlds - and Moore does not hesitate to offer a shortcut in the form of magical fungal friends. There is a nice introduction to Kabbalah and Tarot, which I would suggest you supplement by reading relevant parts of Promethea. This is definitely the best part of the book.
Story of the queer woman - aspiring magician “The Soul” is quite bad, on the level of a boring 90s paperback fantasy novel, which is also a feeling I had when looking at the illustrations that accompany the text.
The epilogue at the end of the book tries to tie things together, with some very good points about ethics and the role of magic, art and science in modern times.
As an appendix you will find a DIY paper temple cutout and a simple table of magical correspondences, something that adds no value to the book and could have been omitted.
Unfortunately, there are also no references in the text or any bibliography, so you will have to do your research if you want to go deeper, and this comes with the usual warning to be careful which occult books you choose, as most of them are pure bullshit.
Either it is the translation or my lack of deeper knowledge of other works of Bachelard or phenomenology. But it has been an extremely difficult read. The language of the text is just strange. I liked a bit here or there, but overall I don't really know how I really feel about this book.
