I just couldn't get through this one. There was some interesting perspectives, but mostly, it was just randomly thrown together.
It was far too frustrating to read about the main character's lack of financial responsibilities and the way they slowly lost their home.
Did not finish
Some of it was interesting, but most of the information about the US was either out-of-date or extremely simplified.
Full of easter eggs for literature fans. The mystery was more than a little predictable, but still fun.
An interesting story about a bunch of students who don't fit in. The characters were interesting, but only the main character had any development.
Not my style at all. The characters and the writing was both too formal and too unbelievable.
There was a lot of setup and a really disappointing ending. It was too abrupt and just ended. Over 400 pages of buildup, of development and then it was over in about ten pages.
Not Satisfying.
3.5 stars
A very fictionalized version of the writing of the Christmas Carol. Dickens was a complex character in the novel (which mirrors him in real-life). He wasn't always likeable.
The main character was interesting, but never really fully developed.
The plot/situation wasn't explained beyond bits and pieces which was frustrating.
Overall, it was a quick read, wanting to find out what happened to Cedar, but as the book continued it left me feeling hopeless.
Not a book to read if you want a happy ending.
The smaller the movie, the better the map. Printed out, in book form, some of the maps were too small to even read.
It's interesting to see how he envisioned these areas, since I pictured some differently.
Strong main characters, but weak secondary. The first “book” was fast going and interesting, but the middle section, roughly 200 pages, was slow and a bit tedious. The last 100-150 pages were very good and the pacing felt natural and quick, without feeling like Towles was trying too hard to tie up all the bits.
3.5 stars. I think that it could have been 100 pages less and more enjoyable.
As always, interesting characters, however, they felt a little more like sketches than in previous books.
A strong story, with interesting and complex characters. It's one of those middle grade books that is written at such a level that all can enjoy.
3.5 stars.
It got to be more of the same at the end, but there were interesting bits along the way.
I feel like there wasn't that much progression with Jane. She wasn't anything more at the end.
I mean, you know the ending, but still this book surprised me, because of its heart and fullness. Both of the main characters were well developed and interesting.
It's not five stars, because it's not a rereadable one for me.
I couldn't get into this one. It was dry and academic, without any interesting aspects. Somehow they made this crazy topic boring.
I've been these people. I know these people. The characters are fully developed and drive the story. The plot is a little predictable, but enough twists and turns to keep me interested the whole time.
Interesting characters, but they were never really fully developed. A lot of things were hinted at and the author seemed to think that was enough character development.
