4/4.5
my favorite one so far
“Anyone who doesn't accept you for you is officially cancelled from your life.”
hugs for Darcy <3
“I realized that people can be going through stuff... and you just have NO idea.”
“-I don't know what to do. I don't know how to fix it.
+Maybe you can't, darling.”
loved the talk Nick's mom had with him about Charlie's mental illness.
“Love can't cure a mental illness.”
“Standing by his side, even when things are hard, but also knowing that... sometimes people need more support than just one person can give. that's love, darling.”
Paris squad forever <333 altho I wish we knew more about Sahar and I absolutely wish there was more about Aled in the story; anyways I'm glad he's in the series.
also,
Tara and Darcy's relationship T-T goals
“Geoff says I'm making progress, but I think I'm realizing now that there might never be an ‘end'. This could be something that will always be there in the back of my mind, waiting to emerge again and bring all the bad feelings back.”
I'm definitely not a pro and I might be wrong, but I think the info and the tips about the mental illnesses (especially ED) can be helpful for some people, and I like the fact that the author put websites' names there for anyone who wants to read more about those.
“-Wanna come around and hang out with Henry tomorrow?
+pfft, are dog cuddles your solution to everything?
-pretty much, yeah.”
and with this, I couldn't agree more:
“I love Nick. I love Nick so, so much. but what I've realized through all of this is that we need other people too.”
I think 3.5 again
read this one way faster and I think it's helping me with my terrible long-lasting reading slump
the ending~
3.5?
very heart-warming
liked how they build a friendship first, Nick being so supportive, and him learning about his sexuality better (altho I think he's still confused at this point)
that ending was so upsetting n I hate to see the boy like that and I hope the other one is gonna make up for it because that wasn't very nice really. (I mean he WAS probably overwhelmed? but still.)
think I'm gonna start the second one right after this
btw Tora? like to see more of her
n I like the art, but at first Charlie's face looked a little weird to me, like in the thriller webcomics
it was amazing! full of different emotions and lively! going through people's traumas from the past, and I loved how there wasn't a bad character or something like that and it could remind us how people are not good nor bad, and everyone has their reasons for doing what we call “bad” (not saying that makes it okay, but we can try to understand them more, thinking about that :)) and even though it could get really sad sometimes, it was an enjoyable read! and loooooved the art and how the author created details about characters (not only in appearance) I hope it's my last sentence: it was really funny sometimes.
i don't usually write reviews (I don't know how to) but it was really lovely and I'm gonna miss it so I wanted to talk about it.
I really really recommend it.
I think the message of the book is important and Mateo sounded relatable to me. (how he didn't lived as he'd like to, because he was afraid.)
the book was so easy to read.
the romance? nah-ah. I don't stan love at first sight/24hours. it was even hard to believe they were into each other because it was so just-friend-ly all along untill the kiss (except for when Mateo asked Rufus things to know how he feels) but still, if they wouldn't use the word “love” it wouldn't sound so dumb, but it did after that. you can't change the meaning of words just because you're about to die and you'll never be able to experience those feelings.
for f**k's sake, RUFUS WAS BEATING SOMEONE HOURS AGO BECAUSE OF HIS EX.
liked the idea of death-cast and “last friend”. it makes you think; the whole fear and regret that the call makes you feel.
I don't know what (beside the romance) but something feels off and makes me give it 3 stars in total.
liked to read what some people struggle with because of nothing, made me feel sad though.
and,
I hate how black people can say anything they want to white people but if it's otherwise, suddenly it's “racist”. they're like “oh yeah we blacks are so dope, whites are dumb and boring” and no-one calls em “racist” or something like that. (you can see it in this book too)
like how Hailey says a word and she have said something “racist” but Starr and two black guys can make fun of white people's things in front of a white boy very casually. and even call him “black” when they wanna say he's “cool”.
I mean what “racist” means for real?!
book 70 from 1000
ok. first of all, it was definitely much more realistic than “TFIOS” when it comes to people with cancer, and also teenagers. (and I liked how nobody fell in love with anybody and even when there was feelings, it was a “boner”. (no. you dont fall in love looking at someone.) that's what I'm talking about when I say much more realistic. (personally I loked “TFIOS” when I read it 4 years ago but I read some critical reviews about it recently and I found em logical.)
There was no miracle happening, it felt just so realistic and a lot of stuff went wrong just like in real life. the characters weren't philosophers and cancer didn't make anyone any smarter.
Greg (the protagonist) was well-written; I mean he kinda sucked but he was relatable sometimes and it wasn't hard to understand his feelings/decisions.
to be honest, I expected the book to be funnier from what I read in people's reviews. it didn't “crack me up” and honestly I don't even remember if I smiled reading it. (and I'm not 30, I'm still 17.) (it was still cool and I liked the style.)
anyways, it was intriguing for me and I finished it pretty fast given that English is my second language and I haven't read a lot in it.
in general, I didn't like it that much to give it 4 stars, but it was still fine so 3 it is.
oh, and it didn't feel like he was 17 for me, he seemed younger and so did the whole story.
