Brilliantly written book, with some vibrant and varying characters. A good one to take on as a singular story (I don't like the follow up, and gave up halfway through the second).
Amazing book, just what I've been looking for! Provides great advice, with studies and life stories to back it up.
Absolutely amazing! I loved this book from start to finish. It was just as good as the first book, which is a hard thing to find in a sequel. Full of action, great characters, and it was a satisfying conclusion to the story of Jane Doe - although I hope there is more to come!
I hope to see more books in the future from Jeremy Lachlan, they'll definitely be on my read-list as soon as they're released.
Absolutely brilliant book! Love the premise - as someone who was tempted by the FI/RE movement previously, and have been trying to rebalance my thoughts on money, this really spoke to me.
I was so happy to discover it's not a book pushing the extreme version of the idea, but instead about changing how you view retirement, and inheritance. It's more about when your money should be spent, rather than how much.
Thanks for the amazing book, Bill!
After the setup of the first book, we begin to see more action in this sequel. We see more of the typical Brandon Sanderson plot structure take shape, and go beyond just world-building and introducing charatcers.
The characters are starting to take shape, and I found myself liking Kenton much more than in the first book.
It looks to be gearing up for an excellent story in future issues. The downside the book is that the comic release format makes it a bit disjointed to read, since you have to pause mid-story and wait for the next issue.
It is definitely worthwhile to pick up if you read the first and are wondering if it's worth it -although it will leave you wanting to read more. I will certainly be picking up future issues when they are released
This is one of the cosiest, best feel-good books I have ever read! As a male reader, I was not sure if I would enjoy the book, but I found myself pleasantly surprised. It is full of a wonderful cast of characters, a beautiful setting, and I found myself laughing out loud many times.
I would heartily recommend it to anyone looking for the following:
• A feel-good read for the holidays
• A cosy Hygge feeling
• Plenty of jokes and laughs
• Light romance (not too sappy or drawn-out)
A very frustrating read. While some of the ideas of the book are good advice, most of it feels more like an opinion piece about returning to “the good old days”.
The whole thing feels like a long, rambling rant. Sometimes it's hard to see the point he's trying to make in one section, and you wonder how much longer he's going to go on before he gets to the point. And sometimes he doesn't bother making a point at all.
The author also seems to go out of his way to avoid more common terms that a reader could look up afterwards. For example, he does mention “authoritative” parenting in passing, but then goes on to change terminology to say “too hard”, “too soft” and “just right”. There are technical terms which make a lot more sense than this very vague idea: “Authoritative”, “Permissive” and “Authoriatarian”. There are a few other examples, but that is the most glaring.
Overall, I would not recommend this. Just go read a basic article on authoritative parenting and you'll get the gist.
A very disappointing book. If you're looking for a book on Blackbeard, or piracy, this is not it. If you are looking for a good romance novel, this is not it. The book barely has two mentions of the existence of piracy. It is more about developing the awkward, unromantic relationship of the two main characters. Would not recommend.
