I think reading the screenplay made me see the faults in the movie overall. Having it written by both Gerwig and Baumbach it still establishes this heavy male narrative and perspective and the overall plot and assumed message of the movie becomes redundant. Even the descriptions lean into and devolve the movie references and idea from male lead and view films. Heists movie are used multiple times in while recently we've seen a shift and making way for more women lead heist films, it's still very male present and predominantly consists of a crew and production of men. It establishes this idea that truly women can't have any space of their own . It's up to women to claim something whether it was something original or not, and even then it's up to them when men try to take over and make a mess of things, for the women to clean up the mess and apologize even though they're not responsible.
It just wasn't great. I know it's co-written by Julia Quinn and Shonda Rhimes but it didn't feel like a Bridgerton universe story. I also wished they pressed for people to watch the show then read the book; it was more of a regression of the Queen Charlotte story than progression.
Men have to chill and not be reckless. If you're still in training to fly a plan that means you're still in training and shouldn't be flying on your own
Realizing now that while this only makes it #3, this could lead to Mary Pope Osborne being my top author for the year
I feel like this is the vampire romance that should have been in the spotlight instead of Twilight
The beginning of questioning what sleep medication their parents took that knocked them the fuck out, incapable of hearing their children loudly sneak out of the house in the middle of the night
Do we think Stephenie Meyer might be really into cannibalism, but knows how terrible it would end for her if she admitted it? Because the more she dives into the books, the whole blood sucking thing feels more and more than just a symbol for Mormonism.
Already this book was earth shatteringly beautiful. Just the first few chapters absolutely grabbed my heart and held onto it. What made it even more intense was the fact that my names Lily and reading a book in which part of the plot is about a girl with the same name gets into a car wreck while pregnant and with her sister driving. It made an even bigger precedent to get through this book and see the healing between these two sisters. I've never read a book that's had my heart so early on, and I can't help but think that it might be fate because I legit got this book at Target in a whim with no real thought to it. If I could write some letters right now, they would be in regard to Holly, Jack, Emma, Lily, and Emily Stone. The slow burn...chefs kiss!!! The absolute raw communication and miscommunication of Jack and Holly...perfection!!! The development and build of the most beautiful characters and plot...I am irrevocably and most ardently in love!!!
Gail Carson Levine really said f*** Peter Pan and the lost boys too. which, low-key, they deserve that. Peter Pan may have ran away as a boy, but was still old enough to remember the sexist and ancient traditions expected upon women.
I thought Sense and Sensibility being my favorite Austen novel and my love for Pirates of the Caribbean prepare for this book, but the in fact did not. This book was weird...and I've read Ice planet barbarians.
Contains spoilers
Welp, okay then...
Like what the hell do I do now. I knew it was gonna end sad but I thought they would just break up again, but...what the fuck is up with car crashes in these tear jerking novels. And how am I supposed to recover?!? You expect me to just move onto my next book?!? My next books include a book on conservative business of America, one of the first feminist novels, and a book that includes knotting. I can't just move onto those like I'm fine, cause bro, truly what the fuck
