A fun quick read that's good for a vacation or a road trip.

An interesting account of the life of an upper-class Egyptian feminist in the late 19th and early 20th century. Not much in the way of class consciousness or discussion of the role of Islam in her feminist activism but still in an interest insight into Arab feminism.

I found this book beautiful but difficult. It was an emotional read. I encourage folks to stick with it to get rewarded with amazing writing.

Not a memoir in a traditional sense. More of a poetic compilation of the mother's memories rewritten by the daughter.

The writer can be funny at times but he is mostly a privileged whiny perfectionist who criticizes those with less knowledge about food then he and complains when other people don't think that he's the greatest.

Extensive study of the eighteenth century Chesapeake targeted towards scholars of that historical period.

A comprehensive life history of a indigenous Mexican female street peddler filled with interesting insights into the parallel life of the author, a Jewish-Cuban American.

It had some interesting information in it but it was basically a bore.

this book has her beautiful style but lacks her dynamic storytelling. a good read but not as great as some of her other work.

It provided a great context to the Zapatista rebellion by focusing on the history of organizing within indigenous communities in Southern Mexico.

Informative but recycles a lot of the information that is found in other sources. Very good if you want to learn more about the pre-1994 history of the EZLN.

A collection of essays, musings, speeches and interviews. Not his best work.

Warm and funny. It's a great lazy day read. It made me hungry for my culinary adventures in Chicago.

I didn't find the play all that interesting. It was a short play but a lot more could have happened in that time.

I really enjoyed the contemporary fiction and some of the folktales in this collection but I feel there are more compelling collections of writing by Native American women.

Such a captivating story with amazing world building and interesting characters. Loved seeing a complex girl as a lead character stepping into her power.

Fun summer read if you aren't looking for something too serious and don't mind dealing with annoying characters and unfinished sub-plots. Its a large book but a quick read if you want something for your public transit commute or to relax with.

This is a great premise, and I was very interested to see where the story was going. But it feels like it ended too abruptly and didn't have the resolution I was looking for.

The premise of the book is interesting but the writing didn't fully deliver. Characters were one dimensional. Dialogue and interactions between the characters mainly served to belabor minor plot points. I was looking for the narrative to show me the characters and build tension. Mostly I was bored.

A really fun story that had me wanting to read more. The writing is cinematic. My only critique is that the characters other than Billie and Gilchrist feel pretty single note and a little forgotten about.
