This was my favorite book in kindergarten. It may even be the book responsible for motivating me to become a reader. I loved the story and I love reading it to my kids now.
This is the best book that I have found for all around *nix administration. Its a bit worn and out of date but I haven't had a need to get a more recent addition (I don't do much *nix admin anymore). It is one of my few technical books that I am happy to leave on my shelf.
It's been a while since I've had so much fun with a light sci-fi story. I recommend it for anyone looking for just reading a fun story.
As always an adventure with Jack Reacher is tons of fun! In this one we get alot of Neagley time as well which truly cranks up the fun dial. Couldn't put it down once I started it..... ended up buying the audiobook so I could continue it on my drive to work.
This isn't the best book ever written. However, if you wanna sit back, relax with a martini, and have some fun then it's hard to beat Bond.
Although, this isn't my favorite of the books it is still a quick and fun read that introduces you to everyone's favorite cold war spy.
Accelerate: Building and Scaling High-Performing Technology Organizations
Outstanding, clear, concise book on leading a technology organization backed with research. This is one of the few books that I've read that once completed, I turned back to the front and started reading again. I highly recommend this book to anyone involved in managing technology teams or organizations.
It's a cute fun afternoon read. I enjoyed it and would like to find a deeper take on this concept with a more advanced Moriarty.
I read this book of poetry and listened to an audio version of it. It is haunting and beautiful and human. I wept through several of the poems.
With perspective of time I was ready to read Woodward's take on the Bush Administration..... This one being his fourth book I think made me sympathetic to president Bush. I think Woodward's narrative is very forgiving even as he comes to the conclusion that Bush was a weak unsuccessful President that left the country (specifically with his war) worse than he found it. He failed to provide leadership desperately seeking one of his advisors to lead.
If you are ready to go through and re-consider that time period this book is definitely on the list.
A satisfying end to an epic tale. I recommend the entire series.... I had issues with the second book but you can't get to the third book without it. :)
This book has given me lots to think about and for that alone I really like it. Some of what Vance has to say about how his family spent money vs how money is spent in the culture he adopted in law school reminds me a lot of “Rich Dad, Poor Dad”. While I have not lived through the chaos he describes, I feel that I've been adjacent to it and there are certainly elements that resonate deeply with me.
I need to read more criticism about the book. I read it because it was recommended by many but after reading it I'm wondering what they took from it.... I feel that it kinda explains some of the pessimism of “Trump Country” but I also think it points to the naiveté and arrogance of liberal policies and interpretations of these communities.
I've read 3 of these novels in the last 3 days with Tripwire completing my holiday weekend. This one in particular is tons of fun! I feel like the author is really getting into the groove and building out Reacher's web of relationships. I'm really interested to find out how these hold up 10 books from now. :) If you like Saturday afternoon Action Movie matinees and roller coasters then I'm willing to bet you will enjoy this book (and likely the series in general).
I love Amy Poehler! This book is bright, funny, and earnest. I recommend the audiobook her reading is spectacular and has wonderful folk that step in on various chapters. Just a super fun experience.
Its a thing you like if you like this type of thing.... I've spent the last few years reading as many books on management and leadership as I can get into my hands. This is one of the few that I will read again.... This essentially falls into the don't be a jerk category of leadership.... aka not a Jack Welch book.
For new managers or aspiring leaders I recommend this book. It is well worth the few hours to help put your head in the right place.
Crucial Conversations Tools for Talking When Stakes Are High, Second Edition
A good read worth while if you are looking to read this sort of thing. I liked the second book “Crucial Accountability” better there are definitely some food take aways from this book. Primarily context matters make sure you are able to have the conversations with an understanding of context, safety, and controlled emotion. At least that is what I took from it.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a nice roller coaster ride from beginning to end and I really enjoyed the world building. I'm very interested in continuing to read the adventures of the Gentleman Bastards.
This book made me sad. I think if Mr. Gore had been willing to present himself as passionatly and strong as he presents his ideas in this book then the last 8 years would have been different.
I don't remember studying the Khans in any of my history classes from elementary through undergrad. All my history classes frame civilization rising from Egypt to Greece to Rome and then Europe. Any mention of Asia is simply as backward barbarians. This book helped provide a far more nuanced view of the Mongol society and contributions of the Khans to our shared history.
Mr. Weatherford does an excellent job telling the story. I had a hard time putting the book down (or pausing audible).
I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in history or just a good story.
A fun adventure read. Light and satisfying the book was a great porch companion on a cool spring night. I hope I get to spend more time with Martin Hench. Until then, I simply offer a toast for luck. Cheers!
