I really enjoyed it. Gobbled it up in a couple days. I really found the neck beard hitting on the main character who wouldn't take no for an answer, and the main character thought patterns throughout an interesting take.
Took a lot of effort to come back and finish it. I kinda like the middle with all the thriller/mystery elements but the start and end were dull and verbose. I feel like the whole story was written as an excuse for the "romance"
Was fine. The main character lies a lot and I don't think it really advances the plot but does lead to enough misunderstanding to make things longer.
I found myself struggling to get to the end, especially though the final fire fight which was so complicated I had no idea who was where or what was going on. I think I ended up skimming.
Interesting characters but honestly none of them, including eva the main character, had much depth. Bad ass sassy captain who threw in Spanish phrases.
I wouldn't tell anyone to avoid it, but there's lots of better stuff out there.
A bit better than the previous book.
Too much dialog, I kept finding myself going back a few pages going “who was fintan talking to again”. Kinda some cool concepts/story.
Kinda Waiting for the next book
Well written book. Cared about the characters. Book made me pretty sad, but I think in the good way. I really wish better things happened for Walt. He and I seem to share that “remembering things people said” quality.
Would I recommend it to others? I'm not really sure. Its not a long book. I read it in about 3 hours.
I loved the darkness of it, but it seriously hit some triggers for me.
http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/92314116 said it a lot better than I did
I listened to the audio book instead of reading it, but my enjoyment still stands. I'll probably read it proper sometime in the future.
Its super cute. Kinda jumps between Max and Fuzzy point of views in different chapters. Easy to follow. Does have a not so subtle dislike of standardized testing.
Light easy read, would recommend.
I loved the first book so much. I recommended it to a ton of people... this one however I liked the content, just not the delivery.
I found myself lost a bunch of times. Having to go back pages or paragraphs to figure out where something came from, often without luck so I just moved on confused.
I found it very unforgiving if you hadn't read the previous book lately. I often hate how authors constantly have to remind you of past details, but this was too far the other extreme. There was no orientation part of this book, it was just go go go right from the start.
I'm not sure how to explain this book. I liked the initial premise, which is why I continued to the end, but it was very very hard to read.
I felt there was a lot of minor characters added and made things hard to follow. Most of the major ones I really liked though (Janet, Kelly, Minty, Rachael, etc).
Perspective jumped quite suddenly at times (may have been an e-reader artifact) and helped to get me lost.
Even sometimes just the writing felt forced/run-on/needs editing.
I would not recommend it, but overall I did like the story, just not a lot of the details / story telling.
I enjoyed this book immensely. When it started off I was a little put off by the topic and writing style, but by the 3rd or 4th chapter I couldn't put it down.
I really liked the twists, the characters, and especially the ending.
As usual I wish they show more “after”, how they live after everything is done, but I'm glad they don't, because not knowing is fun.
SO MANY REFERENCES!
I have so many things I now have to look up.
This (like most other short story books) took forever for me to finish. I kept reading one story and then waiting for my transit ride to finish. But that's me.
I really enjoyed it though. I loved all the different view points. Was excited to see the various recognizable names after certain stories.
My only real complaint was after about half way through, the stories started to end way more open ended. I really started to get frustrated at the lack of real conclusions.
But would recommend to others.
I enjoyed this book. I loved the character development. I wish some of the other characters were a little deeper, but it was all pretty good. I would recommend this to others. Plus the whole running mystery stayed that way until nearly the end, which was awesome. I hate when its too obvious.
Simply. I found the way the story was told to be a little odd, but really helped to paint a good picture.
I found myself often wondering about the events while not even reading the book. That to me says I enjoyed it (and was a little weirded out as the events were very plausible from my point of view)
They are getting a lot better, this one is one of my favorites. Such awesome characters.
I enjoyed the book. The end got a little trippy, but there was lots of plot twists and it constantly made me want to continue reading.
At first I thought the book borrowed a lot from enders game. The main character was being bullied, being sent off to a far away school that had to do with space. Even the whole secret notes from teachers at the start of each chapter.
It quickly changed to a more harry potter feel for me, the 4 kids going on adventures and looking into secrets.
I'll admit, I loved the relationship between the two main characters, but I felt no attachment to any character at all. I didn't care in the slightest when people died at the end of the book.
I'll probably get the next book just to see the end of things. I find it interesting that the authors other books are all tech/programming books.
I enjoyed this book.
WATERWALKER! WATERWALKER!
I find like the other commonwealth saga books, he's a little wordy at times, but overall a great story. I can't wait to read the rest of the books.
Very firmly in the did not like. I did finish it, but I grumbled and complained throughout. The other reviewers did a great job at highlighting the very toxic items. It's also a very long book with little payoff. I'm glad I got it from the library instead of buying it.
The jumping between two main characters was very confusing. The rape scene was way too much. The ending was super projected and predictable... Would not recommend.
Hrm. What to say about this book. I enjoyed the idea of the book more than the book. By the 50% mark I found myself skimming sections only to go back when something suddenly changed. I kinda knew how things would end by then, I really wanted to see what happened next, but found the book was really dragging on.
I wanted to like it way more than I actually liked it.
I did enjoy all the characters though, and the overarching story, just wish some of the middle chunks were more exciting or removed.
It was okay. I found it very unforgiving if you didn't know things ahead of time.
For example, the book was recommended to me so I never read the blurb about the book. Within a page or two I got really confused. Turns out the “world” was the inside of a balloon the size of a planet.
I know a couple of times I had to go back pages to check if i missed something.
That being said, they had some interesting overarching stories that were eventually reveled. I don't think I'd recommend the book to anyone, but i wouldn't discourage anyone who was interested. It just wasn't for me.
This is the second time reading it. It stirs up the same feelings in me as it did before. I can honestly say it makes me feel incredibly alone in this world. The deep loyal feelings everyone has for eachother are so.. touching.
This book has given me tears/shivers in some of the exciting bits, and gets me very depressed in the sad bits.
Very enjoyable book.
Watched Deadpool 2 recently, and it having a character who has a power based on luck reminded me of this book. I realized I haven't read it since I was a teen so I got super excited about reading it again.
Some of the aspects of the book that I liked as a teen I still enjoyed, but its soo sexist. The amount of hate the author has towards women is barely veiled. At one point the author has the line “Cameleon, like most girls, had to answer the calls of nature often.” And that's just one of the ones I wrote down.
So yea, I gave it a couple stars cause it's a neat story still, but ugh.
