See allA good read and promising start
I can tell this is a story series for which I will be eagerly awaiting every new book. It has a novel magic system, a world-shaking quest, a hero of humble beginnings, hidden higher powers, and characters of depth.
Reading this reminds me of when I read Tolkien, Sanderson, or Jeff Wheeler.
As this is the first book, I get a little lost trying to remember all of the new, unfamiliar words for things and all of the characters, but I find the people that matter will keep coming up and remind me of who they are.
An entertaining magic progression fantasy
I really enjoy this story. It's a progression fantasy and has magic, supernatural creatures, believable dialogue, time travel, and a really satisfying ending (when the final arc is published).
I've read this 3-4 times via the web serial format and am looking forward to the entire revised version on Kindle.
A worthy successor in the series
If you've been reading and enjoying the Harbinger series (and the other books in Wheeler's universe), this is another one for you. It has some romance, intrigue, betrayal, loyalty rewarded, war, and the real, flawed, hopeful, vengeful characters that make the world go around. I can't really say too much without spoiling it.
Another solid book in the series
Get deeper into the mysteries hinted at in the last two books, and a few answers. A little more expose of the world of Star Child. Character and world development also happen at a realistic pace, so I didn't find myself rolling my eyes like I have with a lot of other adolescent superhero books.
Overall a solid and engaging book. I'm disappointed only that it's already over and I have to wait a while for the next one.
Easy read, a bit tedious
Too much inner monologue explaining thought processes. Show me, don't tell me. That also applies to people explaining their thought processes to each other in detail.
Otherwise a fun read and I'm curious where the series goes.
