Get ready for an evening of horror with these fantastic stories from Scare Street!
Tavern of Terror did not disappoint! I enjoyed almost every single story in the book, and cannot wait to see what they release next!
Dive into stories that include, a worm that invades your body, a woman who experiments with bugs on humans, a time traveler, vampires, werewolves, AND SO MUCH MORE!
There is something for everyone in this book!
When visiting DC, it is hard to miss the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It is a place that evokes a sense of loss, pride, and thankfulness for those who were willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
In this book, we meet Jack, a young boy who does not fully understand the purpose of the tomb. He is at first bored, but then becomes intrigued as he watched the guard, 21 steps, 21 second wait, turn, reposition her weapon, and start again. As he begins to more fully understand, he gains a deeper appreciation for this unknown soldier, and the many others just like him, who gave their all for the freedoms that we take for granted.
I enjoyed reading this book. It was very well done, and perfect for young readers, so that they too might understand the significance of the tomb, and its place in American history.
This was an interesting book! Each myth is carefully explained, going through the story itself, then the historical, or mostly historical background. I enjoyed reading through these, from Beowulf, to Robin Hood, Arthur, and even Lord of the Rings - there are quite a few different tales and myths woven through the pages of this book,
Great weekend read for those looking for something with a little weight to it, and a bit of storytelling pieced through as well,
I enjoyed reading through this book. There were a lot of unique perspectives brought by the author, who had a tangible relationship to the family, due to his brothers friendships with some of the older McGonigle boys.
When Frank left home, his family thought that he would be back. But when days turned into weeks, then months, and finally years - the dread of what had happened to their son and brother was beyond the pale. They hoped that he was out looking for his fame and fortune, trying to make something of his life. But the hard truth was that he had been murdered, and was known as “The Boy in the Woods.” As the case unfolds and the pieces started coming together, there was a lot of mistakes uncovered, the blunders of a small police office, and the mastermind that most likely got away with murder. As the family continued their search for answers, Jim started looking into the case, hoping to bring some closure. Instead, he found even more than he was looking for - and while the answers might not ever be known fully, there are enough inferences to draw from to figure out who was involved, and what most likely happened.
This was an interesting read, and an overall great book.
I enjoyed the different aspects of this book, and the many different perspectives of those who had fought in the Civil War. I plan to purchase a copy of this one for students to read.
I especially enjoyed the historical background and information that was provided. That is going to prove invaluable to students, through first hand, primary sources, that give an insight into their thoughts, feelings, and attitudes.
Well done!
Amazing short collection of stories - that will scare you silly! Scare Street does an amazing job with these, and Ron Ripley of course never disappoints.
This story had a great premise, and overall interesting story, but it fell flat in some areas. Some of the characters were hard to resonate with, but the story kept me rolling along.
I did enjoy the read overall, just needed a little oomph in places to push it to a five star read for me! Great for late night reading!
Not all seashores are the same. This book goes through the different types of shores, the animals that inhabit them, and so much more!
I loved reading through this one, and learning a bit more about the different types of shores around the world.
This book is perfect for youth, young readers, and classrooms! Learn about seashores the fun way!
When the world tells you no, you find a way regardless. Anne did just that. She was determined to pursue her love of giraffe's and spent a year in Africa, where she learned more about the different animals on the reserve.
After being refused jobs because she was a woman, she went on to write more than 20 books, and eventually had a film made about her.
I loved this book, and the tenacity of the woman who went on to prove everyone wrong! Perfectly perfect in every way!
Women were not always allowed to be a part of the military, and many would disguise themselves as men to do their part. Deborah Sampson was no different.
I loved this book! It was a great telling, showing how one woman bucked convention to do her part in the American Revolution - eventually earning a honorable discharge.
Great story, and one I look forward to sharing!
This was interesting, not quite what I was expecting, but good overall. I enjoyed the history of Santa Muerte more than anything else in this book.
For those who are interested in connecting with Santa Muerte, this is a pretty in-depth guide to the “what to do and how to do it” properly.
Thank you for the advance copy for my unbiased review.
I enjoyed reading through this one and learning about the wildlife that make up Antarctica, and the seas that surround it.
There is a lot more going on in this frozen tundra than many give it credit for, and this would be a great book to add to a school library or home bookcase.
Can't wait to read this one with my boys!
Interesting read on women in the medieval times. Most of the names are ones that you will recognize as you read through, but good overall.
I would recommend this to those who are newer to reading on medieval times, or for those who are trying to get a little more information on a particular person.
Cute little story about the different hidden habitats on earth. Perfect for young readers! There is enough going on in the images to keep kids occupied for some time!
Great story about the Birrarung - and the aboriginal stories. I loved the imagery and the different themes presented throughout the book. It was a fun read, and would be fabulous in school libraries!
Oh my goodness! I did not think that this book would affect me the way it did, but it blew me away. I enjoyed reading about the different areas that really doomed Titanic from the start, shuddered again at the large loss of life, and dove into the timeline like a kid in a candy store.
Absolutely heartbreaking and amazing all at once. This book was all of those - with a lot more in between. I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy anything Titanic.
Easy to read story about a fox and her search for something to eat. Very interesting way to show young readers the differences with light and dark - and scientifically as well.
Kids will enjoy this fun, short read.
NEW VERSION COMING 18 OCTOBER 2022.
This was a cute little story about the different types of friends, and how they deal with difficult things. I enjoyed reading through this one, and see the benefit in having this one around for younger readers. Knowing how different people react, is a great way to start distinguishing between emotions, how to help someone, and when you just need to be present.
LOVED IT!
Mary Queen of Scots has been an enigma in history. As a monarch was sentenced to death by another monarch, the relationship between the two women has long been debated and studied.
This book was fascinating in the many details shared and the depth in which this knowledge was laid out. From the start to the end, this book kept me engaged and interested.
For those interested in Elizabeth and Mary's relationship, the factors that led to Mary's death, and the tidbits in between, this is the perfect book for you!
Thank you to NetGalley and Pen and Sword for an advanced copy of this book!
Cyrus the Great was not a person I was highly familiar with. There are several different versions about the origins of Cyrus, but no one can dispute his kingship. He was a king of kings, and the information that was presented in this book was very easy to follow.
I found myself wanting to get a paper version of this book so that I could highlight and take notes. I have read on Cyrus in passing, lectured on him briefly in World Civilizations, but have never come across something so in-depth, encompassing his life and military career.
I truly enjoyed this book and look forward to more from this author.
If you are looking for fun places to visit in each state - these haunted hotels are going to give you a great roadmap of some fun places to visit as you make your way through the different states.
I enjoyed reading through this book and learning some fun new places to visit and adding to a haunted road map on things to see as you travel.
Interesting read, and some fun new facts about each place.
