Oh, my, goodness. This book is going to reside in my top ten for the year!
Margaret has found her dream home, and when things go crazy during September, well, she has found a way to deal with them. There are rules after all. Hal, her husband, is not quite as thrilled with the September events, but throughout the first three years, they learn ways to manage - until Hal has had enough. He is determined to leave, and wants Margaret to leave with him, but she refuses. There is something about the house, something that draws her back, unwilling to let her go too far away.
Master Vale, the Pranksters, Fredericka, everything with the house calls to her, and she is determined to keep her house, no matter what.
This book, sigh, was fantastic. I was not ready for it to be finished. I wanted more. The book just refused to let you walk away (there are rules after all), and this is easily a “once you start, you will not stop” read.
When offered a chance for work, allowing him to get back on his feet, Eddie thinks its his lucky day. Little does he realize the terror that is about to meet him at his new home. Thinking there are some strange quirks at the home, he starts to realize that there is more to this house than he first thought, and when he discovers that ghosts inhabit the dwelling, his terror is just beginning.
I LOVED this book! It was a fun read, and I look forward to reading more from this author.
True crime is one of those genres that will never get old - and it doesn't matter if the crime is newer - or one that was committed in the long distant past. The murder of Harriet Lane caused a sensation across England, one that was viewed with interest due to the grisly nature of the crime. Henry Wainright had it all - a loving wife, several children, and a good business. But as he began an affair with Harriet, things then started to go wrong. The business suffered, and he was feeling the monetary strain of having to provide for two families.
It was then that he began to contemplate murder. It was a convienient way for him to get the mistress out of the way. He took great pains to make it look as though she had left with another man, and run off, leaving her children behind. But her father refused to accept this, and thus began the police inquiry into her death.
This book does a great job of going into the background, the murder, and the subsequent trial of Henry and his unfortunate unknowing accomplice.
Great read! I enjoyed this one!
The Bender family has long fascinated the American public. Dubbed America's first serial killer family, they murdered without being caught for many years. However, one brother refused to let his brother's disappearance go unsolved, and the more he dug, the more he found. Finally getting a lead, which led him back to the Bender farm, he found it deserted - and upon luck, found the grave of his brother. But it was not just the one grave that was found - but many, and some would shock those in the surrounding areas as to the brutality of the family.
What happened to the Benders? There are many theories - one of which is that they were set upon and killed as they attempted to escape. We will never know for sure, but this family will continue to fascinate true crime fans for decades to come.
A fantastic read! I enjoyed this one!
Tales of World War II is geared toward younger readers, with an emphasis on sharing smaller stories that we may not have heard before. I listened to this one with my 14-year-old son who is an avid WWII fan. While we enjoyed the stories, and the history that was shared, the music was very distracting, and at times, took away from what the author was trying to say.
Good listen, but would prefer the music to be a bit more muted, so as to really shine through the stories and history that is being shared.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced audio copy for a review. All thoughts are my own.
Horror heaven! If you enjoy a good horror read, then you are going to love these 11 short stories! I was hooked from the first, and could not stop until it was finished!

When the body of a young girl is found in the river, the entire town is demanding answers. Sheriff Elven Hallie hands his hands full, trying to figure out who would have done such a thing, and why. As the investigation unfolds, he finds himself at odds with one of the towns leading families, and some not so subtle threats about his job are thrown in as well.
To solve the case, Elven is going to have to sift through the evidence, and look in some unlikely places, with some help from an unlikely source before all is said and done.
This was a great read! I really liked it, and look forward to reading more from this author.
This was a beautifully put together book! I loved the photos and the descriptions that were presented within its pages. I could get lost in the pictures, just staring at the gorgeous images that are the reefs. The sea life was well documented and presented, and again, the images just jump out to you.
Fabulously done, and a perfect coffee table book.
Oh my goodness, this book was fabulous!!
Dive into some of the cases, those that were solved without a body. While much of the evidence could be circumstantial, there was enough to build some compelling cases.
If you enjoy true crime, then you need to read this book! I could not put it down once I started, and it was one of those “turn the page faster, I need more” reads.
I really enjoyed this one! It was a fantastic read!

Take a walk through some of the monarchs in Britain, who have had the distinction of being the worst in the long line of rulers.
Phil Bradford walks through the different monarchs, how they are remembered through the ages, and the final verdict of their overall reigns. The rulers he chose were well researched and their history and their final place in the annuls of time.
Great read! I enjoyed this one!
Cute little read! Dive into the Great Smoky Mountains and explore the unknown. Scout Moore brings her love for the outdoors along, sharing with her brother the joys of the National Parks. They find so many great animals, and even a fun creek to swim in! And who doesn't love smores??
This was a super cute read, and will be a fun read for younger readers!
This was a really fun read. Dive into a different culture, and learn about how they share the beginnings of night and day.
I love that this story was one that was shared as an oral tradition for many generations before being written down. Being able to learn about different cultures, and their myths and legends is a wonderful treat.
Perfect for young kids who are learning to read!
While this was a very interesting read, I have a few reservations with some of the thoughts of the author.
First, we cannot place modern strictures on the past. While we see something as racist today, it was not then - and she refers to things often in one of her chapters - but as a historian, we cannot and should not place our modern rules on the past. We have to look at the way things were then. Second, she goes off on a rant on women's rights, different genders, etc. I passed over some of her rant, as - it really didn't have a bearing on this book at all.
Overall, taking out the things above, this was an interesting read. I enjoyed the details of the grave sites, and the items that were found within. There is much that we can learn from the past by looking in the graves (again, not placing modern strictures), and learning more about the peoples that were in our past. I really liked the descriptions of the goods that were found, and the condition of some of the bones that were described throughout. Brings some interesting theories on some of the pieces that were found.
What a fun read! This book will take you all over the place with awesome locations, and the history behind them - as well as the person who discovered each site!
Great for kids who are interested in history, this will give them the chance to look into several different cultures and some of the treasures that were found at each location.
