Honestly... my favorite book out of all four! Maybe the first ties with it. Wonderfully written and love the characters and development.
I loved the world that was created. Such mind binding phenomenons like a playground of imagination. The storyline matches the skilled description of the book. Left me wanting more and straight into book #2!
A wonderful book series I read when I was a tween and felt like I could relate to Kale and her journey. It's been years and the story is a bit fuzzy but I remember the adventure was exciting and meaningful.
“I'm pleasantly fuddled but not entirely sloshed” - Violet Sorrengail
A perfect way to surmise my overall review of this book. Not as gripping as the first but had me reeling in the end. Things I wasn't a fan of was the relationship aspect (to trust or not to trust?!) but I can understand the struggle and need for character development for both Xaden and Violet. I loved getting to know more characters and the friendship bonds plus sibling dynamics between the Sorrengails. There was so much more detail in this book which can be helpful but also overwhelming. So many different scenes, emotions, storylines, and twists...it felt like two books as I try to think back about everything that happened. Almost nothing surprised me anymore...until that ending! Welp, on to Onyx Storm...
Took this book from my dad's collection because I wanted something new and random to read. I found this so witty and funny! A random gem of a surprise when all said and read.
The continuation of the storyline keeps up with the first book. Such surprising twists and turns and imagination! Amazing.
Started and finished this series when I was a tween. Oddly eerie, entertaining, hopefully and relatable. Never forgot this series and enjoyed the Netflix adaptation when it came out.
The storyline was very intriguing and had me coming back to read the book. I kind of had an idea of where it was going but wanted to find out anyway (maybe a part of me wanted to see Nora live it through and finish her story... hopefully). Although the message was quite clear to the reader, I appreciated the continued epiphanies and discoveries by Nora that was beautifully expressed. I think we all wonder what would happen if we could choose different lives and I felt myself reflecting on my own dreams and wonderment. The book helped Nora and the reader land on the best conclusion...”we don't have to do everything to be everything, because we are already infinite”
I found this book pretty easy to read and exciting...(read within a few days)!! You almost feel just as alone as Lucca as she's navigating this life she has found herself in. The way the chapters are organized and pieces of information are revealed at the right moment is very clever. I feel satisfied and wanting more after every chapter. I love Lucca's complex character. She has heart, she wants community, she misses her past/mom (though imperfect), she even tries to save the people in her jobs. The connections she forges makes her a likable character. The reader can't help but root for her! By the end of the book, becoming Miss Smith, was a cool full circle moment but I was also left wondering if that's something “Evie” would actually want? To continue the work of the boss she hated? Maybe she made the jobs to her liking? Part of me was hoping she would leave the criminal life, as she told Devon, but maybe it's all she knows and that's the real kicker. The dream ending of any “gray” moral character, riding off in the sunset with your shady boyfriend doing shady things with your shady friends (lol).
Anyway, overall, I thought it was great writing! I would definitely recommend to any of my friends who want a good, fast paced, mystery novel to get through! Five stars!
Wow, great storytelling overall. This series was recommended by many friends on social media when “Onyx Storm” came out. I somehow managed to avoid any spoilers before reading this book and I'm glad I did. Also, I am getting back into reading and seems I picked quite a feisty series. (#noregrets) The characters are well established and I love how the dragons have names and personalities. (Frankly, Tairn is my favorite character at this moment.) The relationship between Violet and Xaden had me all over the place and yet it's somehow addicting. Much of the story in the beginning was captivating but there were elements that annoyed me...until we got to the last quarter of the book and it started to make sense and fall into place.
My thoughts are still forming as the story reveals itself. I've already started on the second book and looking forward to knowing more about this world. There are so many questions by the time you get to the end of the first book... but I appreciated the attention to detail in battle and lore. I guess we'll see where this journey takes us..fly.or.die.
This book was a birthday gift and I started reading it out of boredom one day. I was not ready for this emotional roller coaster. This book will always have a special place in my heart and showed me the gift of good story telling in the perspective of an adorable dog. So good!
This is one of the first series as a teenager (2008) that I rented from my nearby library and was obsessed with. Life went on and I forgot about the series but never forgot the story. Finally, during 2020 shut down, I had time to get back into reading and hunted down this series based off of fickle memory and images I could recall in my head and googled the heck out of it. Finally, I found it and I reread this first book entirely and it was JUST as exciting as it was back then. Can't wait to continue the series again!
